can i put estradot on my arm?
« on: September 07, 2022, 12:06:50 PM »

currently i've stopped all HRT as having such a shite time- but much of it to do with peaks and troughs in oestradiol delivery

i'm re-setting/recalibrating by taking nothing and will then tackle it all again as starting to feel knackered on nothing! i have no ovaries so really running on empty.

i think it was the fact i sweat a lot in all the places you traditionally stick estradot- much more than the average person!

however, my arms don't sweat like that- so would be perfect

the other option is daily oestrogel- which of course goes on the arms and doesn't sit there for few days like patch- this would be perfect except that i've had such bad times on it i'm actually pretty scared to try again! every time i vow never again

the patch was ok- sort of- until i started my exercise regime which i don't want to give up

i'm really bloody sick of trans-dermals and do wonder about oral oestradiol too- so any thoughts on eg elleste solo 1mg also very welcome  :)

thanks for any help

It says on the leaflet for patches that they must only be applied below the waste. It is very difficult for you if they are not sticking. I do not suppose you have tried them with a Tegaderm dressing? Patches do not stick for me unless I use Tegaderm.

My Mum used to put her patch on her arm up by her shoulder. And oestrogel we can put on backs of arms. But I guess you should do what the leaflet says unless you get the go ahead from a Meno specialist?

Thanks flossie and gnatty for quick response!

sorry, flossie, i wasn't very clear: the problem isn't so much sticking, rather it's that i sweat so much underneath it, it's prob rendered useless - it actually does stay put on my abdomen but the underside is wet through!! sorry, bit gross. of course it might be the exercise itself but the peaks and troughs are so pronounced that i can't help feeling there's a "mechanical" reason for it!!

gnatty, very interesting about your mum- i agree, i will ask a meno professional to sanction it! i wonder if the doctor associated with meno matters would be worth trying - is it dr curry??!! i've asked her something via email before and it's a lot easier (and cheaper) than yet another private meno appt!! hope things ok with you :)

It is not gross. We all sweat. :) I think emailing Dr Curry is a good idea.

All good thank you! Hope you find a way to get some oestrogen into you. We ovary-less women need it. X

Dr Newson said you can stick them anywhere really apart from breasts, it’s anywhere that works for you really.

ooh thanks for that, Floo36-

very interesting- i was considering underside of forearm, well away from breasts. i may still write to dr curry (currie??!), or maybe i'll do it first then write to her if it seems to be working! i won't be too cavalier and am going to start very low at 25mcg

thanks all :)

Good luck I hope so much you can sort out somewhere where the patches stick okay. I have gone back onto Oestrogel five weeks ago. Still on a rollercoaster I have good days and still some pretty grotty days but I saw the menopause consultant yesterday and she says it’s going to take at least 3 to 4 months to settle down totally. I really feel for you as you are obviously having a rotten time as well. It really is the long game isn’t it it’s not an overnight fix it’s finding the right type of HRT and the right dosage and that certainly can take some time. Hope so much things improve for you very soon  x

Hi Pippa-

thanks for the lovely message- i'm glad you're having some good days among the less good- may your recovery continue! it really helps me to know that after several weeks you're having some breakthroughs, i will definitely give this next attempt a few months to bed in.

Marchlove-

no worries at all and thanks for the positive message

vintage fiend - thanks so much to you too for the lovely message.  Yes this is definitely the long game and it can be beyond frustrating and often downright depressing at times but the roller coaster does seem to get less and slowly disappear for many people when they level out.  It's just a frustratingly long trip sometimes.  Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.  xxx
