Hey.
Yes, that's the position I was in. Menopause clinic suggested the pill. None of them worked like they used to. So I was tried on hrt. My god, my first 2 weeks on estrogen alone was like poison.
I am under a bhrt clininc, they did bloods which highlighted my own estrogen is normal. Not high, not low. But my progesterone is scraping the floor.
This is a common phenomenon that occurs in your 40s where your prog declines first. There is a lot of information out there about this, but it is not something supported, or even recognised in the UK by the nhs or bms.
Perhaps most women don't experience symptoms from this prog decline, I dont know. But I do believe throwing estrogen at us in peri is often the completely wrong approach.
The US and parts of Europe are quite big on using prog only at this stage.
Now - unfortunately I can't say it is the magic you are looking for. Personally, I've had an awful time trying to get onto prog only. It seems it makes your estrogen receptors more sensitive when you begin or increase dose. This has proved hard for me. But we're all different.
If you're still peri and don't want to touch estrogen right now, give the prog cream a try. You've nothing to lose. Emirita is a low dose though.
Start reading. Lara Briden, Dr Lee (a little out dated now, but sets the scene). Progesterone therapy website from the states has lots of information.
There is a ratio for prog to estrogen. Omni do a calculator. You'd need blood tests. Obviously in peri we fluctuate wildly, but it gives an idea.
Don't expect support on this route from your GP. If you are financially able, you could visit a bhrt clinic. But also just trying yourself will give you an idea.
There are not many women on this forum using this approach. It was chatted about in the alternatives thread a while back. Another member recently realised she started to feel better on prog only, but unfortunately she left the forum. She was using utrogestan.
Let me know how u get on x
