Mid cycle spotting, rage, would more estrogen help
« on: August 31, 2022, 09:26:37 PM »

Evening all,

I'm 46, have mirena for over 18 months plus evorel 50, plus estrogel for top up.
Past few months I'm having mid cycle spotting, sore boobs, massive mood swings/rage, feel p***ed off for no reason, like my mojo has gone...
Should I increase my estrogen dose? I'm so confused, I've tried not having any patches or gel and it left me in complete tears within days. No idea what's going on, I still have a cycle but suffering from my own hormones going haywire I think, so what should I do to help, increase to may be 75mg evorel? Initially put on this regime for very bad pmt but could be peri, gynae and Dr's not that informatve, have history of night sweats, mood / rage swings, bad depression on Pop... Tried everything  :-\ any help from you lovely people would be most welcome, thank you xx

Hi Keithee

Sorry to see you left the forum. Your post got missed - there are several boards now so not possible for everyone to read all the posts - I usually mainly read (glance through!) the All Things Menopause when I come on here as no time for the others....

Sorry to see you've been feeling rough.

It's very difficult to know what's going on once you have a Mirena as it can stop periods and you won't know where in menopause you are. If you were given it when your periods were regular then you won't be ble to tell when you become peri-menopausal, though flushes and sweats are a give away.

If your cycle is still very strong and breaking through the this can lead to some of the symptoms you describe ....

As you are young you could try one of the combined cotraceiptive pills designed for older women in peri - these contain the same oestrogen as in HRT but because they suppress the cycle, they will eliminate the dramatic hormonal fluctuations of peri. The two types are QLAIRA and ZOELY. Might be worth trying one of these if things don't improve  on your current regime (you would need to have the Mirena removed though otherwise you would have too much progestogen).

Though you have left the forum, I hope you see this and wishing you well.
