Bathroom cleaned/hoovered.  Cupboards turned out, shredding completed.

Been to M&S and very surprised to find two heavy weight cardigans that fit  :bouncing:

One already on, navy - suitable to wear in the garden.  The other is 'for going out' in.  If they wash OK I'll order more.

Home now, lunch 2 hand.  Birds need feeding.  Then off to a garden centre .... although I. haven't warned DH yet  ;D

Bought two more plants  :whist: B4 getting a cuppa and DH had a scone - home now, 🔥 lit ;-)

Oh my goodness, ladies, what a day I've had 😲. Prepare yourselves, I need to moan  :o
Mum has been in hospital for almost 2 weeks now. Eventually been told that she has colitis, a compression fracture in her spine and gallstones! No wonder she has been crying in pain at times! She has been treated for the colitis and dietary advice given. So far so good!
Nothing to be done about the gallstones (unless she becomes jaundiced?) Not interested in her back pain as that will be addressed with ICT when she's at home. The communication style and language used by consultant was inappropriate when addressing an 84yr old with hearing loss.
She was dreadfully sick yesterday whilst I was there. I ran out to tell the nurse. I had mum cleaned up, changed and sitting up in bed and popped back out to see the nurse again.  She was busy texting on her phone (and let me tell you, it wasn't work-related).
Geez, I can't wait to get her home - it's scary out there!

Sorry that the NHS has again not used joined up thinking.  Has your Mum been seen by the Orthopaedic Team regarding the compression fracture, has she had physiotherapy at all.

What's ICT?  Has your Mum been advised by a dietician?

Nope, no involvement from orthopaedics. ICT is intermediate care team (multidisciplinary) who provide care package for patient when discharged. I spoke with them today and felt a bit reassured as they will fully assess mum at home and will provide physio and care as required. I said that I wasn't convinced that I was being listened to regarding mum's needs. To be fair, the guy said that the hospital's take on patient needs are often understated and that they will sort it out! Phew..
I had to request dietician input (who was very good) and he will provide ongoing support when mum is home.
I'll maybe ask if a back brace will be needed 🤔
I feel so disappointed with the lack of joined up thinking within the hospital, feel that there is no holistic approach at all when dealing with a patient and feel that certain staff are pretty dismissive and defensive when challenged..

Sadly when Tony Blair decided that all nursing staff had to 'go in ' at Degree level, it cut out the auxiliary = caring staff.  Those that really wanted to make themselves useful but didn't want to or were clever enough to take Degrees. Some could have but due to child care, wouldn't put the time and energy forwards to do the training required.  So a whole level of caring was removed from the NHS.  Not due to costs at that time but ........

So that takes at least 2 years of potential nursing/caring skills out of the work place.  As well as the 20,000 replacement nurses were never employed: many didn't make the grade or changed their minds ..... during which time Nurses were retiring or leaving due to lack of morale.

When I worked in the NHS every speciality that a patient required was brought to the bedside by request of the Consultant of that Ward.  Now 1 is lucky to even know which Consultant is in charge let alone C 1!

..... and breath.

I'm no expert but the wards for the elderly are the worst..my daughter came off working on the wards and went into clinic work- it was soul destroying just not being able to deliver the level of care. It was often chaos. Years and years ago I was in hospital having an op and recovering quickly as I was young. An elderly lady in the next bed had food placed that she couldn't reach and was crying. I nipped out of bed and got it for her. I thought then, I hope I don't end up in hospital when I'm old and that was years ago! When my mum was in, she was terrified of needing the toilet in fear that no one would come and I can imagine myself being the same.
