So this morning I discovered that Maggie has gone into heat (she's just under 8 months old). I got home from work this morning and found a blood streak on the floor. I knew that something was up because she has been acting kind of off for a few days, but nothing major.  Just to be sure I had her sit for a treat and when she got up she left another streak. Not a lot, so I'm hoping I don't need to rush out and buy diapers.  I have a blanket on the couch anyway so I just need to wash it as needed.
I don't think I'm ready for this!  Our first girl was spayed at 8 months and she never had a cycle.

Diapers ?   ::).  To go into land fill or burnt. ??   My bitch never made a mess, she kept herself clean.  She was 11 months with her 1st, 2 and a half with the next.  Her character never altered.  Following around with a damp cloth will be enough.

The 2nd week is when bitches throw out the 'come and get me' pheromones.  A bitch that is spayed never has mammory tumours, the risk increases with every season.  I didn't have mine spayed until she had pyometra which was sudden and essential to save her Life.  She also had mammory tumours as she aged.

Slept until 10.00 .  Leisurely day.  Same old.  Same old but done later ;-).

Fire lit.

I wouldn't buy the disposables, I will get the washable ones, they're more money but I don't want them in the landfill.  I plan on spaying her in May when she's 12 months.

Why bother with diapers, if she's a young bitch she is unlikely to make much mess that a cloth won't mop up.  Our Game Keepers would let the bitches have 1 season because they believed it was good for them, however it puts a bitch at risk.  You could clip the feathers under her tail so that she can get there when necessary as well as being easier to wipe.

Eaten 2 pancakes for supper  :-*
