Seabuckthorn oil - omega 7
« on: August 20, 2022, 09:09:38 AM »

I found the recommendation for this on this forum. Heralded as a help for dryness.

Just wondered if those that take it /have taken it could post their experiences. Any side affects?

For me, I'm in peri. Not suffering from downstairs dryness - as yet. But I have such hormonal fluctuations that cause me to get sinus /nose issues so I started seabuckthorn oil for that. I really think it helps stop my nose drying out, but I also think it's irritating my eyes. It is heralded for dry eye, which I don't have, maybe its making mine too wet.

Anyway, love to hear any experiences. I'll certainly be keeping it as an option for other dryness, should it arise!

Hello CrispyChick. I take one seabuckthorn capsule every day. I have not had any side effects at all. What I have noticed is, I have less vaginal dryness then previously. I have not noticed it helps with the dryness of my eyes but I am happy with the help for vaginal dryness.

Hi CrispyChick.  I take 2 sea buckthorn a day to help with vaginal dryness, and it does help me.  I also feel my skin generally is less dry and it has helped me with dry eyes too.   I take the Pharma Nord brand and haven’t  had any side effects from it.

Thanks ladies.

After 5 days of not taking it my nose is very dry again - which I think ultimately leads to my sinus issue and headaches.

My eyelids are still itchy - so that must be a genuine allergy (I have many). But my eyes themselves feel fine.

I'm going to restart 1 capsule a day. See what happens next. I take pharma nord too.

I know the dose is 4 a day to load for 2 weeks then 2 after that. Maybe i need more than 1, but on 4 i got some funny effects. Hence i dropped to 1.

Retry!

Could you have hay fever? The symptoms you describe sound like hay fever to me.

The itchy eyes does sound like it might be hayfever.

Am interested in trying seabuckthorn thought it's a bit expensive and I gather you have to take 4 a day to start with. Do you take it as well as using vaginal moisturisers or instead of? And can anyone remember how long it took to work?

(also, great to see you back flossie)

Aw, thank you. :)

The seabuckthorn I have says to take 2 a day. I only found this out recently and have been taking 1. I agree they are expensive but maybe you could try just 1 a day?

Holland and barret often have sales and I got mine for half price when I bought them last.

You can also use vaginal moisuriser. I think it is best to use both. I noticed a difference after one month of taking them.

I was using just vagifem when I started taking it (about 18 months ago) and would say it took two weeks for me to notice a difference, but I did do the 4 a day for 2 weeks initially, which is what is recommended on the Pharma Nord brand.  I now also use ovestin externally and Olive & Bee moisturiser when I need it.

Hey

Oh yes, I totally have hay-fever. Have had allergies all my life. I'm on strong antihistamines every day.

I got suss as eye thing has been extreme since starting the seabuckthorn and has defo calmed a bit since stopping 5 days ago. But not totally gone. Also, the weather has changed. So could be coincidence. Hence me retrying.

Good to hear others get on well with it. I may up to 2 capsules and see.

For those interested - I'd definitely recommend trying. It helped my dry nose and I'm hopeful night stop me getting VA when reach actual meno. Worth a shot?!!!

I’m taking the oil too but have only been taking it for two weeks so perhaps to early to tell. I’m hoping  it will help my dry eyes which are really causing me problems. What dose are you all taking mine are 1000 and state one each day.

Hi Smokey.  I take one capsule twice a day which is equal to 1000 mg with my capsules (Pharma Nord), but I did as they (Pharma Nord) suggest and did two capsules twice a day for two weeks when I first started them.  They have helped with my dry eyes and VA, but it was probably a month before I noticed any difference with my eyes, two weeks or so with the VA.

I've just ordered some Pharma Nord ones so will see how it goes. I just realised my eyes and nose are also quite dry so it's a bonus if they get better as well as the VA.

This thread reminds me of a plant that I was unfamiliar with (4 years ago) near the coast - turns out to be sea buckthorn, bright orange flowers with a kind of blue/grey thorny branch.

Dear All,

if it's any worth knowing, I did try it myself but I cannot recall the dosage: it did not help at all and I stayed on it a couple of months. Perhaps I should have persevered ...

I've been on sea buckthorn for just over a week now and I'm already seeing a difference with the vaginal dryness (but not so much the eyes - never mind, downstairs is more important!). I just hope it continues - I'm just about to buy a much larger packet.
