Hysteroscopy and vagifem
« on: August 18, 2022, 01:06:33 PM »

Hi
I’m post menopausal and have been taking 75mg evorel patches and oral progesterone with vagifem every other day due to VA and GSM symptoms. This regimen has helped the VA a lot but recently I had a bleed and have slightly thickened lining  so have been referred to have a hystetoscopy , D&c on Aug 31st - all under a general anesthetic.  The gynaecologist is going to insert Mirena coil at same time !  My question is has anyone else had a coil fitted and or a hystetoscopy and has the actual physical act of insertion made your VA worse or better? Also can I still insert vagifem after the procedure as they say not to use tampons or have sex for a week or so ? I’m just worried that all the messing about down below will aggrevate my VA when it’s taken a year to get it sorted!  Thanks 😊

I don't think that inserting vagifem a couple of nights after surgery will be bothersome.  I would ring the Consultant's Secretary and ask the question?

About 10 years ago I had a hysteroscopy & mirena coil fitted without G.A. now I wont lie it wasn't a breeze but it was bearable. However aren't you having a G.A.?
I do not think it will make inserting a pessary or other will be a problem but I would wait a week. I cannot imagine that it will make your V.A. worse but these are questions that need to be asked before they start the procedure.
You'll be fine but let us know how you get on.

I think you should be able to use the Vagifem maybe 48hrs after - just don't put it right at the top where your cervix is, put it a few inches lower for a few days, away from the sore part!

Again, lack of knowledge and advice from the medical establishment.

I recently had a Mirena fitted, second one. It has never made VA worse. I didn't use the Vagifem until day after procedure and then placed it about half way up. I did ask GP after recent Mirena and she said it was fine to use after fitting. I didn't have hysterscopy though.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess I’m just a bit worried that all the furtiling about with the procedure will make my GSM symptoms come back as it’s taken a year to get them under some sort of control and even now I wouldn’t say they are completely gone. I treat the whole area with great care these days ah ha !
I’ll ask the questions to the gynaecologist before the procedure & it’s good to know that the coil hasn’t had a negative impact on peoples’ VA. Thank you it’s good to know there are other people out there who are going through the same things and I’m not on my own with all this 😊
