Bloating and weight
« on: August 18, 2022, 11:50:16 AM »

I’m so fed up with weight gain, bloating. I’m on hrt. I’ve also got a knee problem which means I can’t exercise atm.
I used to go to several exercise classes per week. I now find that I’ve put on a stone and I’m eating less than ever. It’s not just down to my lack of exercise. It’s the weird bloating. The back fat. It’s making me miserable as hell.
Any form of advise would be useful. I am 57. I had a period last December and then another in July.
I have been checked out and there are no issues with my ovaries.
Thanks everyone.

Hello Menowend. Welcome to the forum. Bloating is very uncomfortable and I understand why it is getting you down. I was wondering if the bloating could be worse depending on what you eat? The reason I ask is, I have noticed menopause can make some people sensitive to some foods or even develop IBS.

Sorry to hear you have a knee problem. I hope it is something that will heal and you can go back to your exercise classes.

Hi there,as Flossie said, meno can be the cause of a lot of it. My bloating stopped when I cut out wheat but I had a test done, hence the reason I know it was the wheat. Weight gain is an issue too, women seem to gain it round their middle at meno time, I used to exercise like mad to shift it,nothing did, like you, injury means I can't exercise like I used to. Have you ever kept a food diary? It can be a pain but it may just show you what's causing the bloat

Agree with the previous posters, I’ve never had a food intolerance until peri. Water retention was an 11lb nightmare. I was put on an elimination diet and stayed on it as the weight/water dropped off quickly. It might be a total coincidence but physically and mentally I felt back to normal within days. That was 6 months ago and I’m still good (fingers crossed!) Nobody in my family has allergies/food intolerance etc.
It’s really, really worth looking at your nutrition.
Good luck.x
