Finally got gel!
« on: August 11, 2022, 03:49:58 PM »

Saw the HRT nurse and she said that she and the doctor both needed me to be fully aware that if I carried on with HRT Kliovance there was more of a risk of stroke.  They decided on an HRT spray and gave me a prescription for that plus some progesterone tablets.  I have been on Evorel Conti patches for ages  and have so much trouble with them not sticking.

We had discussed Estradot patches but they cannot get them, apparently there is a nationwide shortage.  Went to pharmacy to get my prescription feeling very positive.  They can’t get that either. ::)

Pharmacist then spoke to GP and she has prescribed Oestrogel gel pump - 2 pumps twice a day and utrogestan 100 Progesterone tablets.  I will finish the evorel patches I have left and then start on these.  Fingers crossed!

Good luck Pennyfarthing, hope it is the right one for you. I have been on the gel for a couple of months and it has helped tremendously. X

I hope you get on with it, gel is a bit of a faff compared to a patch but at least it sticks. I had the same problem with evorel patches. I have an appointment tomorrow and was going to ask to change from gel to estradot but I think I'll ring the pharmacy first. Oestrogel works fine for me but it generates a mountain of plastic waste.

There is that Sheila.  I hadn’t thought about plastic waste, although I should have I guess.  i was told there is a national shortage of Estradot but maybe your pharmacy has some in stock.

Still haven’t started on the gel because I thought I had better try and finish up the patches first.  Amazingly, the damned things are sticking now.  I had tried various places on my side of thigh, front of thigh etc on fleshy parts and not so fleshy.

Hubby has been helping and we are now sticking them below waist level on my lower back and they are sticking well!!

Pennyfarthing

So are you applying two pumps of gel in the morning and same in the evening?

I’m asking as I was changed from gel to oestrodot but the doc wouldn’t give me any extra as I’m already on 100mg patches and have had to add my own left over gel which I had a supply of. They won’t refer me to menopause clinic despite me asking four times it’s been since December and I’m getting lots of anxiety and scared feelings some evenings whilst watching tv so clearly I’m not on enough.

Hi Smokey,
Sadly Pennyfarthing has had to leave the forum.  :'(

From this part of Pennys post it looks like she is possibly applying 2 pumps a day so if it was me I would do morning & evening - hope that helps.

Oh what a shame.

Thanks for the info. Not sure what I’m going to do as still feel bad on 100 patch plus 1 pump of gel. 😩
