Low dose Progesterone mono therapy
« on: July 18, 2022, 04:30:10 PM »

Hello All

I know a few people are trying progesterone only as a treatment for menopause.
I came across this today which is rather interesting

I’ve got deeply into reading everything Lara Briden has written although I’m not doing it myself. But I know where you’re coming from…

25mg is low isht it but may be all some of us need. I wish they made utro in smaller doses.

I’ve just been having another read of the results section.
The most impressive result was the mood changes where 80% of women reported a MRS score of 0 after 3 months!
The trial was on women in peri, so not sure what us post ladies should be doing??
Yes indeed scampidoodle, but nobody seems to listen to us

Scampi and march Lara Briden recommends poking a hole in a 100 capsule and squirting about half out. If you’re not taking estrogen I think there’s no safety issue behind not getting the perfect exact dose and things might be more relaxed. Like with estimating a pea size testosterone blob….

She also recommends 50, twice a day. I guess it depends how sedating it is for you.

I highly recommend reading not just her blog posts but the comments sections because she often replies to people with advice there….

Another interesting thing is that whatever hormones you take, she recommends 5 days off everything each month because she thinks there’s some sort of acclimation effect whereby the body reacts to them less well if they are constant. I guess that would mean a likely bleed… I’m waiting for her books to arrive to read more, I’m not sure about that one….

Yes joziel, I think she’s good and have read both her books.

It’s interesting that the study clearly states that higher doses of progesterone cause increasing irritability.
I’m plodding away on 25mg of progesterone and very low dose estrogen. I feel that I’m slowly desensitising myself to the progesterone and my plan is to work towards 25mg twice a day. This is what my specialist is aiming for with me.

Some ladies seem to have success taking the Utrogestan every other day, so that might be another option.

following this with interest.   Started half Everol 50 this weekend....  have to build up slowly as been post meno for 6 years nearly and took massive dip recently with all symptoms hitting me in last 7 months.   Agreed vaginal progesterone as I have acid reflux/GERD and bowel problems with the meno so last thing I need is more tablets getting in the mix.   Will follow this with interest.

Really interesting re the poking the hole in the utro joziel! Never thought of that. I’ve read a few of LB’s online articles and they do seem to resonate x

So, I've been trying solo progesterone since Jan.

The only conclusions I will make so far are:

1) Everyone reacts differently.
2) I react totally differently to compounded prog cream than I do to onas brand.
3) Dosing seems to be just as unique.
4) definitely increase my estrogen sensitivity with low prog doses.

For every person/book/blog that recommends low dose and breaks, there's another recommending continuous and higher dose. Unfortunately, not yet having found my happy place, I'm having to try them all.

I still feel this is the correct course of action for me, but boy, some doses/types have made he feel very ill.  :(
