Ovestin Side effects
« on: July 08, 2022, 02:16:55 PM »

I had an emergency hysterectomy when I had my son in January (kept ovaries). I have had nothing but problems since down below and my flora is off. I was prescribed Ovestin by my gynae who said I was dry. I have been using this for 3 weeks now. I am still sore down below, I am dizzy (like I am drunk), headaches, irritable, low mood, palpitations.... Has anyone experienced similar side effects? Or could it be something else? Gynae says it is highly unlikely the issues are a result of the ovestin cream. How long until people saw an improvement with the cream? The soreness, burning etc is hard to tolerate

Hello and welcome to the forum. I really am sorry to hear all you are going through.

With the sorenes it takes time to improve. I know that is not nice to hear. Your skin will be sore due to lack of oestrogen and the ovestin will slowly be helping to replace that.

I would use it twice a day inside and on the outer area. You may like to mix a little with vaginal moisturiser to apply to the outer area.

Your body may still be in shock.

Use the Ovestin internally and externally, when I feel symptoms niggling I put another dose 'up' in the afternoon as well as continuing every evening until it settles. Then it's back to every 3rd and 7th night.  As well as taking 'nurofen', 2 capsules 3 times a day to relax that area.

Some find that using an added moisturiser on the outer labia can help : 'yes' or 'sylc' products rather than Replens.

Have U been prescribed any other HRT?

Those symptoms are low estrogen symptoms you're describing. Sometimes when women have hysterectomies and leave the ovaries, they are more likely to go into an early menopause. It's something to do with removing the uterus which affects the ovaries and causes them to fail earlier than usual.

So seeing you have vaginal dryness, dizziness, headaches, low mood, palpitations - all of which are menopausal symptoms - if you are still under the age of 45, I'd suggest getting your doctor to run full bloods on you and especially FSH and estrogen. You might also need to repeat them 6 wks later. If you are over the age of 45, you can be given HRT just on symptoms alone, no bloods run.
