I agree BJ: I have a friend who is Head of a private school for 50 autistic spectrum boys from age 9-18. I have another friend with a child who showed classic problems but the school refused to give a Statement because they didn't want it reported on their Ofsted and didn't want to fund help in the classroom. Eventually, after several long, hard years, with support from the NAS a private statement was acquired but the Education Authority refused to accept it so the family had to jump through yet more hoops and fire-rings: education psychologists who cancelled appts. at the last moment on several occasions, psychologists with no knowledge of the autistic spectrum, all 'chosen' by the EA ……… it took 5-6 years B4 the EA offered support by which time their son was due to leave School.
Parents should not have to fight for their children.
