Periods not on hrt
« on: July 03, 2022, 10:49:51 AM »

Help please am total wreck
49 50 v soon def peri a while  have taken mini pill on and off for like  4 years and now been off couple months had a light period then nothing for. Month which was also light have had years of clots flooding so is a treat , finished I thought as nothing for couple days and now have had period feelings and started to bleed mainly on wiping some on liner new blood as red and just want to burst in tears.
What hell is going on? I have a lot of stress quite often but don’t have anyone to ask if this is back to back period, or hormones flushing out?
Have had normal, smears and pelvic exam

Hormones.  Your ovaries are pumping out enough oestrogen to flutter your cycle.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.

Yep.  My periods waxed and waned for 3 years  ::) but at least they were no longer intensely painful and clotty!  We need to be at least 12 months without a bleed B4 we consider us into menopause 'proper'.

This is typical for peri Meno. You can have stop-start periods. Long ones. Short ones. Heavy ones. Light ones. You will get used to it but it is very annoying. You can have two in a month then go months without anything before starting again. Many of us have got to 10 or 11 months without before having to go right back to the beginning again waiting to reach the magic 12 months. Also, your body is still adjusting after stopping the pill. This can take a while to even out

What’s the reason you came off the mini pill? As that would likely have kept periods light through this time. You can take it till 55yo….

Wasn’t sure if making anxiety worse
It’s not the level of flow I’m worried about it’s the whether it’s still my period but stopping n starting or whether it’s spotting.
I have mucked it all,up probably as take for few weeks then stop then start is it likely to be that as been off it for approx 7 weeks now

To be honest, stopping the pill whatever age you are can muck everything up in terms of cycle and bleeding for a good 3 months at least.

Then peri-menopause itself leads to weird bleeding patterns - heavy, unpredictable, lighter - just random.

So all that is pretty normal, which doesn't mean it's pleasant or you have to accept it. You could try the Mirena coil, which has a smaller amount of progesterone in it than the mini pill and it's local in the uterus so much much less of it gets into the blood stream than the mini pill. Most women don't bleed at all with the Mirena after the first 3-6 months and you can keep it in for 5 years so would see you through until menopause....
