Estrogen patches and anxiety
« on: June 18, 2022, 08:29:22 AM »

Hi again,

Sorry to post again but I have another question!!!

I started HRT last saturday (first time on HRT) and I know it's unbelievable but I was using the estradiol patch wrong, I was only wearing them twice a week rather than changing time a week!!! (I know!!!)

However the lovely ladies on here helped.

My question is this, I have really severe anxiety and insomnia, now that I am using the patch correctly (I take progesterone pill every night) will my anxiety get better as it is absolutely through the roof at the moment.

Thanks xx

It depends. Some women find it significantly helps their anxiety, some require therapy alongside it, for some anxiety was experienced before menopause so HRT has little impact. For me it helped but overall the reduction in symptoms has given me enough strength to address the anxiety issues and deal with them with therapy and learning about exposure to my issues or triggers.

It may well help your anxiety. Give it two or three months of correct usage and then reassess. As you are on a low dose patch, it would be reasonable to increase the amount of oestrogen if your symptoms are not controlled. Perhaps if it makes you sleep a bit better, that might help too.

Thanks once again Joaniepat!!!

And I'm glad ATB that it gave you some movement regarding your anxiety. That little bit of space is all that's needed sometimes in order to deal with them x

I will keep you posted on how I get on x

Hi Dee,

Of course I will.

I'm new on here and to HRT but the advice here is superb, so many lovely ladies.

My anxiety is through the roof as well, so you are not alone Dee;

The magnesium Glycinate I believe is the one for anxiety (and sleep issues) love life nutrition, I believe Marchlove was where she got hers so I've ordered some.

My wonderful husband told me this the other day and it's helped me, theres always a beginning, a middle and an end,
I feel I'm stuck in a very dark tunnel but I'm going to keep pressing ahead cos I know if I keep going I will get to the end

Stick with it Dee, all the very best xxx

Hi Deedee,

Well I'm new to HRT, but I am glad I started.

I have the estradiol patches 25 mcg and micronised progesterone 100mg.

I would maybe start a new post on post meno, and ask the other ladies who have been on HRT longer and have maybe more experience as to what suits them better.

For me I didn't fancy the estrogen gel, and I understand patches I believe do not increase a risk of blood clots, so that's good.

If your gp is good, have a good with them or even ask if there is a menopause clinic near you.

You are not alone Deedee xxxx
