hoping someone can reassure me. I had a hysteroscopy back in november, full biopsy, polyp removal, all the trimmings everything came back fine. On the discharge leaflet it said "polyp", and this was confirmed by the histology results two weeks later.

Today I had the same procedure, but notes said "dysfunctional uterine bleeding". The scan had showed a thickening of 7mm, was given noresthisterone to top up my mirena to see if it shrank and 5 weeks later the thickening was 12mm, hence the need for a second hysteroscopy.

I'm worried that this time, with such a fast growing polyp and the "dysfunctional" note that it's something bad. Or is DUB just a catch all term? I am hoping that because I had such thorough investigations in November and got the all clear that it's unlikely to be anything bad, but you know how it is.

The other thing is she wants me to stop all hrt until the results come back in 2 weeks. i've already cut it down by 50% and am getting tremors, poor sleep and hot flushes and generally feel awful. If I stop it altogether I may well keel over. This also worries me - she said back in november that she usually likes a halt on HRT in case it's feeding a potential problem, but she didn't ask me to do this after the first hysteroscopy, but she has this time. My oestrogen levels are low already as I don't absorb very well and my meno specialist thinks it's unlikely that hrt is causing the problem but again, you know how it is when you're worried. Meno specialist thought going cold turkey in the run up to the procedure was probably not a good idea and to bump back up after the op. But seeing the notes I got on discharge with "stop oestrogen" I'm panicking like mental both because a) I'm worried she's advised this because she saw something she didn't like and b) I already feel dreadful on a reduced dose so can't face stopping altogether.

Sorry applejack, I do not have enough knowledge to be of much assistance.

I’d stay at the level you’ve dropped to though, it might just settle a bit, then explain at the next appointment this was all you were able to do.

This must be very worrying for you. Keep posting on this thread and some other members will be along soon hopefully. X

Thanks Marchlove. Yes, it is very worrying. I’m more stressed this time and not getting my symptoms
back is making it worse.

Like Marchlove says stay at the levels you are so you are not worrying about symptoms returning. I had this on my 2nd hysteroscopy notes it indicated abnormal bleeding but I had not had a bleed for 2 years until then so that is why it was investigated. My womb lining is 7mm and had a polyp removed last week as had bleeding again back in February. I have been told it is because the balance of HRT is not right so I now have to try a different prog, if that does not then it’s the mirena or bust!
I am not sure why she wants you to stop the HRT though.When you have next appointment ask the gynae to explain why that was suggested. I really do think that more should be discussed at these appointments to help lessen any worries. I was not told I had a polyp cauterised until the letter came back via GP.
I know how worrying this all must be for you and like you my anxiety is really high at the moment.

Hi Queen - the last time she told me to stop HRT was before the first hysteroscopy. She said that whilst the risk of cancer was very low she didn't want to run the risk, and she saw HRT as a risk. When everything came back as clear she told me to carry on.

Three months after this the bleeding recurred and we spotted an area of thickening about 7mm on the scan.  on THIS occasion she told me to carry on with HRT. The reason she said this was because it had only been three months since I'd had thorough investigations - she even checked with the oncologist who said the risk was negligible so carry on.

After this I was put on noresthisterone to supplement  the coil, given another month and scanned again - despite throwing everything at it the thickening was now 12mm and she said no, sorry, not risking it, stop immediately.  Ok fine, it was only two weeks until I was booked in for another hysteroscopy. I contacted my meno specialist who said do not go cold turkey! But we reduced the amount at which point I started to feel terrible. Forward to yesterday, out comes the polyp, but she came into the recovery room and said "don't go back on HRT" which has now worried the crap out of me because the last time she said ok, feel free to resume. I mean, I'm so worried now that she saw some bad stuff in there :-(

To be honest I felt so grim this morning after another night of no sleep I slapped on my usual 125mcg patch because I have no quality of life whatsoever without it. I reckon there's not much damage it can do in two weeks, especially since I hardly absorb it.

You've been quite reassuring though - if you also had this on your notes, but had a polyp removed. She definitely said it was a polyp she'd found, so perhaps she'd put DUB on the notes before she did the op.  That's what I'm hoping!

Let us know how the appointment goes. You have had a time of it and I am sure all will be okay but it is scary not knowing what is going on in our bodies. TBH I asked why bleeding, thickening of womb and he said HRT, the polyp he said is just life it happens! I am wondering if nothing works for me as I am really fed up as had 3 hysteroscopies in five years then should I just stop. But like you the symptoms are too much to cope with but I do not want another experience like I had recently, it was the worst procedure I have ever had, and I have had other hysteroscopies, colposcopy, colonoscopy and endoscopy all not pleasant but okay.

oh goodness, we're in the same boat. I do sometimes wonder if it's worth it when you have to keep having procedures.  It's bad enough managing your outward symptoms, working out which is the best hrt for you, how much, how to regulate, without having the bleeding episodes on top of that. It seems like it's a constant set of adjustments and you simply don't know what will trigger the next bleed, or if you'll be lucky this time (until you need to adjust again).

Good thing about menopause is that you say goodbye to periods and never have to worry again - yeah, right. Pull the other one.
