Low mood and fatigue
« on: May 30, 2022, 10:44:23 AM »

Hi everyone

I'm new here and have been reading through some of the posts.  My issue is that since about 2016 I've felt so tired and cannot deal with stress.  It's almost like I've exhausted myself and have nothing left to give.  My stamina has gone and I am left feeling low in mood, crying spells, and wanting to sleep more.

I have been put on Oestrogel, 2 pumps daily and had a Mirena coil inserted.  I have days when I can't bear noise and my neighbours are irritating me.

I am wondering if this hormone change is having an impact on my mental health which has always been dodgy.  I have experienced childhood trauma and have suffered most of my life with low mood and depression.

At present I am signed off work and anything I try to do is such an effort.  I don't seem to have the energy any more for the things I have always had the energy for.

Can anyone resonate?

Thanks x  :-*

Hello self_love_required. I love that username. I can relate to your symptoms. My noise tolerance is so bad and I struggle to cope if neighbours play music I can hear. As you have mental health issues I imagine your GP is aware of this. Have you been able to tell them how much worse you are feeling?

Hi self_love_required, it sounds like you're really suffering and I'm so sorry.  All our journeys are different, but I'm sure a lot of the ladies here understand how you are feeling.  I've been really trying with CBT and Mindful Self Compassion exercises to help with my low mood, anxiety and depression, but it can be hard work and I've struggled with it recently to be honest.  I'm just trying to take things one day at a time - today is quite a good day, although my energy levels are really low - it'll be another 8pm bedtime I think.  I hope you find some support here and things do start to take a turn for the better.

Take care, and know that you're being sent kind thoughts.

Hi SLR sorry to hear you are struggling. As you have a mirena coil you could up your oestrogen if you liked as your uterus is protected. Oestrogen is the feel good hormone as you probably know. A friend of mine had to use at least 3 pumps once she had the mirena to feel anything like.

Another thing you can do is look at your diet. Eating healthily, lots of vegetables, fruit and salad, lean protein, limit processed food and sugar, really makes a difference.

Hope this helps x

Hello Self_Love_Required and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry that you are suffering and I completely understand how you feel.
My mood changes are the most distressing aspect of the menopause for me. For example this time yesterday I was very cheerful and upbeat but today my mood is very low and I am crying a lot.

I am on HRT but I know something hormonal is going on because my breasts are tender and I have started spotting /bleeding. I have now contacted my GP and I expect to be referred for a hysteroscopy.

I am with Newson Health meno clinic and my next appointment is later this month so I will see what they suggest.

By the way, although a healthy lifestyle is always a good thing, I eat a plant based diet which obviously includes a lot of fruit and veg etc but I still have mood problems so I believe hormones are a law unto themselves!

Take care.

Hello Self_Love_Required

I feel for you. I feel very similar myself. HRT is helping with hot flushes that were unbearable but I am concerned with getting depressed what has been my inclination throughout life due to childhood experiences. I worked a lot on myself during peri and cut alcohol completely, have been eating healthily, meditating and exercising, I was feeling much better apart from the hot flushes. I also had some CBT.

HRT alleviated hot flushes what is so helpful, I am still tired, but I can't now determine whether challenges  in my personal life at the moment or the HRT make me feel like this. My tendency to health anxiety doesn't help and I sometimes forget all the good things I learnt about how thoughts are just thoughts, the same as feelings and to let go.

I think I could do with some counselling if i could afford so I would definitely recommend this to you if you can.

Wishing you all the best x

Hi SLR,
Yes it resonates well and I’m sorry you are feeling rubbish.

Perhaps you need to increase your gel? Try an extra half pump to see if that helps?

As you are signed off, maybe really try and focus on you?

Try and do at least one thing a day which you enjoy?

Have you had all your vitamin levels checked? Deficiencies can cause us to feel de energized.

Other than that, no words of wisdom, except I do understand 🌺
I’m also noise sensitive, can’t sleep at the moment and am wondering if at the age of 51, this is it!

Take care

Hi darlin,

I felt like this when I started my peri journey many years ago. My low moods come from a sensitivity to progesterone. I had to have my marina coil removed due to this and I now take Ultrogestan (vaginally) instead.

I would also try increasing your gel. My private doctor put me on 4 pumps a day to start with which helped me and I also take testosterone daily.

I have 100mg of sertraline every day as well to help manage my anxiety and emotions, as they were out of control.

This is just what has worked for me. My energy levels and emotional health have definitely improved.

I hope you find what works for you soon... Sending lots of love you're way xx
