My GP thinks I have dermatitis on my vulva - I bought cetraben, but pharmacist today said it has antiseptic in it and can irritate. What alternatives are there?

The YES product range of things can be very helpful - E45 helped me and also Epaderm .... Aquamax to wash with. x

I have found Betnovate helps when I have eczema on my vulva. I have not found anything else clears it up. The GP should have prescribed you something as many products on prescription help dermatitis.

Hydromol ointment, is very good can wash with it too x

Your GP should prescribe something if that is the diagnosis.  Why didn't he/she?

Start with something bland - I use LIVE yoghurt for a lot of problems via the digestive tract and smeared on the vagina ;-).

YES moisturizer is brilliant, main ingredient is flaxseed which is incredibly soothing

Hydromol, Epaderm, Doublebase, and Cetraben are all bland emollients which you can also use to wash with. Ordinary Cetraben cream has no antiseptic as far as I am aware. It is the one I use to wash with. I use either 50-50 Ointment or Emollin spray afterwards, but only because Epaderm and Hydromol are a bit too thick. It's just personal preference. All of the foregoing are recommended by my vulva dermatologist.

I use Epimax, Hydromol and Cetraben in various rotations. Not sure why pHarmacist said Cetraben  has antiseptic in it- I’ve just looked at mine and it doesn’t. I find it probably the best of the lot actually. Hydromol is very good but thick and harder to use. X

I use Dexeryl. I found epaderm, cetraban etc too greasy and irritating, plus I hate the smell, but Yes VM isn't enough of a barrier. Dexeryl seems lighter but still a bland emollient

I use Nivea in the blue pot, simple effective and cheap

I use Cetraben for washing, very mild. Dermovate cream prescribed from the doctor is good and YES water base products are organic and good for sensitive skin.

Too much choice ?  but all good advice.  Vaseline will repel urine which may be another suggestion.

Hi Winter, surely your doctor advised you how to treat this? did he/she not mention seeing a specialist?. I do not want to alarm you in anyway but it could be a number of things.
Can you describe a bit more about your symptoms to us?

Is it dry, itchy? weeping? red or inflamed, smelly sore, how long has it been going on for.
