Mega headaches on Evorel 50
« on: May 25, 2022, 02:39:19 PM »

Hi All,  have been struggling with Evorel 50 admittedly only a very short time (nearly 3 weeks) but the headaches/migraines I am getting are now unliveable with and they are 24/7. I have never had headaches this severe before even with migraines. On Monday my vision became so pixelated I could barely see and it came on suddenly not like the auras I normally get with migraines. My lovely GP checked me out for a TIA it was that bad ....thankfully it wasn't that.    In desperation I have booked a telephone consult with a Menopause consultant on Monday as I just can't go on like this life has come to a standstill just feel too ill. Not a cheap option but I really need some expert advice.  Fingers crossed.  :(

Sorry to read you are suffering still Pippa 😥

Is coming off Hrt an option for you? I only ask as I am struggling to feel the benefits and wonder if the body would be better off just getting itself to a base level and eventually ( hopefully) just settle.

No words of wisdom, except reduce down to 25 patch and work upwards again?

Xx

Nas - thanks so much for your lovely post.  I had a surgical menopause many years ago and tried to cut down slowly and come off HRT a couple of years ago but it truly was unbearable.  I was so well for so long on Oestrogel but the formulation changed slightly and did not work as well last year - however I didn't feel this ill so maybe (when it is available again) I will ask if it is worth re-trying it again.  Thanks again for your kind words.  I am going to ask my GP if in the meantime I can cut the 50 patch in half - I think your suggestion is definitely a good one. xx

Oh that’s so frustrating that you were well for a long time previously. If you are in surgical menopause, you definitely need the oestrogen.

These patches come in 25, so definitely trial a lower dose. Absorption rates are different with these products and it might just be that you are on too much right now?

Im experiencing similar but with period pain. Was on 75, but the usual pains are back, so I’ve dropped to 50 today. No doubt other symptoms will rear their ugly head in the next few days!  Xx

Sorry to hear this Pippa. Have you tried just cutting a bit off to lower the dose? I’m finding the 50 gives me a headaache so I’m cutting 1/4 off and I’m fine with that x

Floradora …. So so Pleased for you that cutting down your dose of it has helped. I have now done exactly the same
and replaced a new patch a few minutes ago with a quarter cut off and removed the other one.
I spoke to my GP a short while ago for advice and he was happy for me to do this .  Fingers crossed it will help as I do like the delivery method of the patches. It will be very interesting to see what the menopause consultant suggests  :) Thanks so much for your post and advice much appreciated xxxx

Floradora - how are you doing on the slightly lower dose?  I have found cutting down that little bit has helped.  Hope so much you are feeling better x

Sorry you’re going through this. I think you’ve got good advice already but just wanted to say I had to lower my dose going from gel to patches, it seemed like I absorbed better with patches? I don’t know but the dose was too high and I definitely didn’t feel great on it and I’m now on the 50 patch which seems much better overall. I may need to slightly bump it for some weeks, my period week isn’t great but this third month of the lower dose I seem to be much better so that may not be necessary. I’m amazed at how much I have had to tweak it so don’t worry, a lot of women have to. Hopefully you feel well again soon.

Are your headaches easing a bit Pippa? I’m fine now with just slightly over 3/4 of a patch. I will stick with this dose for a good while now x

Floradora - thanks so much for your message.  Yes the headaches have actually now eased a lot and the jitters and high anxiety has calmed too thankfully.  I am on 2/3rds of the 50 mg patch so clearly the 50 mg dose was for me a bit too much.  I have the telephone consult with the Meno specialist on Monday so will be very interested to get her advice but as things are I would prefer to persevere on the patches rather than switch back to Lenzetto as do feel for me personally the patches give me a more level dose.  So glad your dose of 3/4 seems to be working too that's great news.  Like you I intend to stay on my present dose as things do seem to be improving.  Fingers crossed for us both :)

ATB - thanks so much for your lovely post.  So interesting to know that you too seem to absorb better with patches than gel/spray.  Like you I felt the dose I was on was too high for me personally - if I need to increase it slightly in the future then so be it but I feel that Lenzetto was a lot weaker or maybe I did not absorb it very well but on the British Menopause site it states that 50 Evorel patch is the equivalent to 3 sprays of Lenzetto and I was transferred straight onto a 50 patch when Lenzetto was unavailable  so it was a big jump up in dose as I was only one on 1 spray of Lenzetto  so not surprising my body re-acted somewhat violently!!   As you say it does seem to take a lot of tweaking to get the dose right but I do understand it takes quite a long time for the body to get used to a new formulation and dose.  So glad that you are feeling better now and long may it last xx

Just an update.  I have just had my telephone consult with the Menopause consultant who was lovely.  She is changing me from Evorel to Estradot as she personally is not a fan of Evorel and does not prescribe it. She also feels that Estradot is less likely to cause me the bad migraines as the estradiol is made from something different (soy I think?) Had been feeling slightly better until yesterday evening when the lower dose caused the anxiety and palps and hot flushes to start to come back overnight and this morning on the lower dose of Evorel.  Nightmare :(   I also have to have a blood test and follow up in 6 weeks time to see how the Estradot is working. Fingers crossed - I just want to feel normal again and get my life and some sort of energy back xxxx

That’s strange that your MS isn’t a fan of evorel. They are pretty reputable and can work just as effectively as Estradot.

Interestingly, I cannot tolerate Estradot. They give me awful period pains.

I’m the same with the lower dose evorel. Anxiety etc was creeping back etc. so have put a 75 back on. Still don’t feel that great to be honest and I know the 100 is completely ineffective.

God what a journey this is turning out to be eh Pippa?

Hope feel better really soon.
Will you be on Estradot 50 or 75?

Hi Nas,

Oh yes quite a journey just wish we could both reach a good journeys end in feeling good!!  Not sure why the Meno consult was not a fan of Evorel but she did say different things suit different people - don't we all know it!! :) So sorry to hear your anxiety was kicking in again on the lower dose of Evorel.  Getting the dose right is just so difficult!  Meno lady has prescribed me 75 patch as she feels my dose was too low - think I might be on the ceiling with 75 but she did say it it was intolerable I could cut it down to 50 but would prefer I tried the higher dose first.  The 75 seems to be in short supply though so guess it all depends what is available at the moment.  Hope so much you feel better soon too - sending hugs and empathy!! xx
