Hi ladies, I've been on hrt for 2yrs, the last 3 months I've noticed that a few days into the utrogestan half of the cycle my bladder feels like I have cystitis, I have constant urgency to go, my bits feel swollen 😞 I use it vaginally as orally gave me stomach issues. Just wondering if I can no longer tolerate it, the rest of the month is fine especially first half of the cycle with no utro.
Any suggestions on what I should do, do you think a different progesterone might work ?

My specialist  told be recently that in some people taking it vaginally can cause thrush. Best to get a swab test done.
It could  be that you have to change to a different progesterone if you can’t tolerate orally. x

Hi March love, I did think this as I've heard too that it can cause thrush, and have been using canestan with no improvement, it doesn't feel like the usual vaginal thrush, it's more as if my urethra is inflamed and sore.

It’s very common when using utrogestan vaginally, I suffer with it too. To minimise the side effects I often take it orally days 2 and 6. The other days I take it vaginally. I cannot tolerate taking it orally for more than a day at a time. It’s not perfect but it works.

I also use ovestin to keep tissues plumped up, not sure if this helps but like to think so.

Perinowpost, thanks for your reply, is it a common problem ? I had no idea as I've been fine up until a few months back. I took it orally last night and my urgency feeling has lessened today, not perfect but better than yesterday. I'll try orally again tonight as can't face vaginally as it feels sore and irritated still.

I think if this carries on I'll have to make a Dr appointment and ask to try a different progesterone. I wonder if you can take birth control progesterone as I used to take Cerazette and that suited me fine.

Yea very common. If you can tolerate desogestral (the prog in cerazette) then maybe this is the way forward (I never could). Maybe discuss with your doctor as an alternative. A lot may depend on your age and where you are in menopause. It’s worth a try though as it’s another option. Hopefully others will be along to advise x

Perinowpost, I'm 49, 50 in August. No idea where I am in menopause as being on sequential gives me regular withdrawal bleeds. I was switched to gel over a year ago and didn't absorb it and didn't have a period for 3 months so I'm maybe thinking I'm in full menopause ? 😞 I guess there's no way of telling unless I stop hrt altogether.

That’s right you’d have to stop to see. Lot’s of women are still on the mini pill at your age, I think you can stay on it until 55 I’ve read on here (but don’t quote me). It’s only the prog part though and you may still need some oestrogen to relieve symptoms x

I am on Cerazette. A menopause DR suggested I take 2 daily to use as the progesterone for HRT. Although 1 pill is totally fine for me, 2 was not. I hope it works for you.

Yes. I am on Evorel patches. At the moment I am only on the patches and waiting for an appointment to see if there is another progesterone I can tolerate.

Perinowpost I'm reluctant to stop as I had horrific bladder issues previously.
My symptoms have improved today as the last 3 days I've taken utrogestan orally. The urgency feeling is lessening.

Flossieteacake, thanks for your reply, that's good to know that Cerazette might be an option. Are you not getting on well with it, what symptoms have you had ?

Every single progesterone has made me so depressed and suicidal. It is so frustrating. I really hope you can take 2 cerezette.

I took the last few utrogestan orally, had the withdrawal bleed but still having days where my bladder doesn't feel right, urgency feeling, but not as bad.
I'm now wondering if I need a higher dose of estrogen, maybe my natural estrogen has taken a nose dive

Thank you for your kind words. Ouch, I hate that horrid bladder feeling. Hopefully somebody will have some advice about that.
