Wrong testosterone prescription issued
« on: May 06, 2022, 05:51:36 PM »

Sad to say, that after feeling v pleased that my GP was up for prescribing me testosterone (after several mo this on HRT and no libido improvement) she then talked me through a male prescribing regime.

She told me to take it daily and to take 4 pumps of Tostran, instead of the does I later found on the BMS website which is 1 pump every 2-3 days.  How disappointing….and actually dangerous.

Fear I will need to write about it to her.  Reluctant to do so, as GPs are already anxious enough about prescribing off licence.  She had looked it all up before giving me the info, but clearly wasn’t looking at a women’s website.  I don’t want to put GPs off prescribing T even more.  But on the other hand, this is dangerous and might highlight the need for more knowledge and training.  Same old story unfortunately.

Anyway, now I know my bottle should last me well over 6 months and Inwont need to return for another prescription in 4 weeks as she said!  That’s one positive I suppose!

A similar thing happened to me.  I had waited months under the NHS to see a specialist for the menopause.  I ended up speaking to a gynaecologist over the phone who told me to try herbal medicine.  I knew then that I was going to get nowhere so I thought I'd better just try and get a prescription for testosterone.  She told me I should ask my GP to prescribe it to me!  I told her that they couldn't and she could, so she eventually agreed.  When the prescription arrived at the chemist, the pharmacist noticed she had also prescribed the dosage for a man and called up my doctor to get this corrected.  What a palava.  Since then, my GP won't prescribe me more so i had to go back and see another gynaecologist to get another prescription.  This one seems a bit more clued up.
