Postural (Orthostatic) Hypotension
« on: April 23, 2022, 01:42:41 AM »

Hi everyone

Has anyone ever had postural hypotension come on really strongly in menopause?

I've been unwell now for, well since invasion of Ukraine.......strange coincidence but that's how I remember when it started.

I think it began to improve for a bit but now seems just as bad, leading me to think it's when I'm in the progesterone phase of Evorel Sequi.  I've always had it a bit, but it would never stop me in my tracks, this actually has.  I can get out of my car, walk towards a shop and then be so dizzy that I have to stand still, wait, then turn around and go back to my car.  Nothing while sitting down and no problems driving.  it's on standing up.  I've also had labyrinthitis, but this is separate to that in that it can and does occur on it's own.  Both have come in a cluster though.

I will see the doctor (hate doing it) but if anyone is aware that this is a menopausal issue, it would really help to know that right now.  I worry things are serious.  The doctor wasn't worried on the phone but that was a few weeks ago now.  thanks  :-)

Is it ON standing, what I mean is,is it when you go from sitting to standing? If so,isn't that all to do with the fluid in the inner ear, going in the wrong direction? It's awful and I suffer from it occasionally, sadly dizziness can be a result of meno also, there's so many women on here suffer from it but it is always best to discuss it with your GP of course

I’m afraid I have suffered with this my whole life ( my Dad also has it and my two kids too), but haven’t noticed a change since starting to be aware of menopause. I do have more palpitations now though.
The most important thing for us is keeping fluid levels up. Doctors also advised us to take a drink of lemon juice with water and salt every day to try and get our bodies to keep hydrated. I also have to do leg exercises when I have been sitting or laying down for a while before I stand up. Hubby often has to hold me up when we are out and about but once I have got moving I’m fine

Thanks Jaypo and Ecl

It is on standing, or other postural changes.  It's just bad at times, so I have to stand still when I get out of my car, before walking to the shop which can look weird.  Never had it to this degree.

In the process of checking hrt with the doctor, so hopefully can resolve it.  It's got better over the last couple of months, but I'm still having some days like it.  I'm not on continuous hrt, but thinking I might go back to evorel sequi for a while, I'm still having periods on continuous.  A friend said I just need the cycles to stop now.  maybe it's that.

The vagirux pessary makes it a lot worse, so stopped that.  It was also giving me migraine.

It's not the whole story though as I still get a bit of it despite stopping that.

Have you looked up ear crystals at all? See if those are the symptoms x

Thanks Jaypo, that's interesting, I will read up some more about it when I'm home later.   :)

Yes, mine got worse in peri - I don’t know I had it for years, but was diagnosed with hypermobility 8 years ago.

This time last year I was regularly having to lie down during the day and the room would spin sometimes for no reason, on top of everything going black when I stood up. (That’s always happened for me so feels v normal!)

I noticed things improved for me with oestrogen and gone down hill as I’ve needed more. I take progesterone vaginally as was so tired when I started hrt I didn’t want that to deal with aswell and I find that works well.

I have to keep well hydrated but also make sure I’ve eaten crisps or something salty.

Sometimes I’ve used support socks which really help.

I noticed this last week - in fact I bought a cheap blood pressure monitor so that I can keep an eye on things (I work from home, so I'm not carrying it around all day!).  Typically, since I bought it I haven't had any dizzy spells.  I've been getting over a cold (not covid, according to tests, but my BIL, his girlfriend, and MIL have all tested positive for covid since we spent the weekend together a fortnight ago, so could have been).  That's what I thought was causing it, so I'm hoping it's just a passing phase.  It's interesting that some of you are finding it getting worse in peri / menopause.  I'll keep my fluids up, thanks for the tip.
