Nowt is TMI!

How's your diet overall?  R U on medication, some of mind makes me have slow transit.  If I feel really stuffed I stop it all for 24 hours to give the digestive tract a rest, usually works ;-).

Walking around can help.  Get some Deculux (sp) (from the pharmacy or supermarket ) and use the night before you don't have to go anywhere.

Hello menopausalalways.

I haven't had this problem but many times I have mentioned the experience of a friend of mine. She was so badly constipated that she was referred to a gastroenterologist and prescribed meds that are usually used pre colonoscopy. At her follow up appointment she was advised to take two tablespoons of ground flaxseed every day. I know this worked for her so it may be worth a try for you. I think generally that a high fibre diet prevents constipation so adding more of the right kind of foods may also be of benefit.

I hope this helps you in some way and take care.

K.

Yes, Kathleen is right.  I have a prolapse so it’s important I don’t become constipated.   I have two tablespoons of ground flaxseed mixed with a nut and seed granola in the morning.  Also, I drink plenty of water and snack on almonds, which are high in fibre.    This works for me.

Likewise, also I add a chopped kiwi, which I think helps. As does the magnesium I take at night. Avocados are good as are brassicas.

Both Kiwi and Avacados use a lot of water to grow, the latter also having a lot of air miles and quite frankly, they have never been quite to my taste, it's the texture I think  :-\

Kiwis may well be grown in this country.  Some people eat the skins  :-X

Badly suffering from this as a result of being on mirtazapine. It's really, really bad at the moment.

I use flaxseed too but have read that increasing fibre but NOT increasing water can be as bad as no fibre at all, so whatever you do - if you up your fibre you gotta up your water.

Agree with ladies above and I take magnesium glycinate and chia seeds added to porridge or any cereal but reiterate the water uptake about 1.5 - 2 litres throughout the day. I get a bottle that I know holds a certain amount and set a reminder on my phone to drink and then refill the bottle. Hope it eases for you. X

FWIW, I've upped my water this week to 1.5l a day. I normally only drink tea so that's quite a change.

Let's just say it seems to be working  ;)

Remember that we take on liquids through a good healthy diet.  Also one can drink too much which can be fatal.  What's the colour of your urine?

Number 3 on the link I've added :-)

I wouldn't drink more than 1.5l (I don't think I'm capable, to be honest). They recommend up to 2.5l but if I tried that I'd be watering all the gardens in my close and no one wants to see that.

Anyway, further update - the water is working so well I've not needed any fybogel for over 10 days now.

The main NHS website says 6-8 cups a day - that is meaningless. What size cup - a tea cup, a mug, an espresso cup?

This I found a lot more helpful - https://www.kentcht.nhs.uk/leaflet/healthy-hydration/

I've used flaxseed and extra virgin  olive oil to help constipation.... also eat lots of nut and walnuts do it for me too.   Always take enough water 250mls i class as cupful and have a small mug that I checked to make sure its the correct amount.

Just been reading my Thyroid Uk Harmony magazine where it has a big article on magnesium.
It’s says Magnesium Citrate for constipation.
Magnesium Glycinate for sleep.
Magnesium Malate for energy. So I suppose you take that one in the morning?
The magnesium citrate has worked wonders for me!
Other stuff it says on magnesium.
Responsible for more than 300 metabolic processes in the body.
No point having a blood test as only 1% is in the blood, the rest is in bones and soft tissue.
Magnesium contributes to bone density. Without magnesium, vitamin D is stored in the body is not used. The body depends on magnesium to convert Vitamin D to its active form which enables the absorption of calcium to protect bone.
Hypothyroidism has been linked to mineral deficiencies including magnesium.

Sorry, gone off topic somewhat but all very interesting so thought I’d pass it on.  x
