Does it ever stop?
« on: April 16, 2022, 04:11:23 PM »

Hi

I'm 7 years post meno. I still get hot sweats, night sweats, anxiety off the scale, difficulty sleeping - I probably feel worse now than I have in years.

I've always accepted this as "normal" and just blame the menopause but have often wondered - should I still be feeling like this post menopause? Or do I need to consider it could be something else? I've not got many people I can ask as most of my friends are sailing through this time of life whereas I feel pretty awful most days.

Thank you

Lynda

Lack of oestrogen is forever once you’re through the menopause. Saying that some people are worse than others. Have you considered supplementing oestrogen?x

Thanks Perinowpost and Nas. I have the odd day (like today) where my health anxiety takes over and I wonder if my symptoms are something else, other than the menopause.
I don’t take any oestrogen supplements/HRT - I had a bad experience on HRT and it’s really put me off.

When people say they are doing fine and you think they are sailing through it don't always believe it.I think it's very rare this happens menopause if it be perimeno or post is difficult and you have to have to find your way through it.Hang on in there take time look at every item on this site you can find to help you its so helpful.

Hello Lynda07.

I am also post meno by about ten years and often wonder if the menopause is entirely to blame for how I feel.

I am on HRT and don't have any physical symptoms but still struggle with the emotional ones. I am experimenting with lowering my dose of Oestrogen to see if I can find the elusive sweet spot!

Would you reconsider trying a low dose HRT to see if it addresses your problems? I suspect that my anxiety  would be much worse if my sleep was disturbed by night sweats so even a small improvement may be very helpful to you.

Wishing you well and keep posting.

K.

Thanks Jenny J, I totally agree with you about this site, I look at it most days and the information and help is invaluable.

I can't remember what I tried Perinowpost, it was only a few years ago but my blood pressure sky rocketed, I felt quite ill too and it put me off trying again.

Kathleen, I'm sorry you struggle with emotional symptoms, it's hard going isn't it. I hadn't thought about trying a low dose of HRT after my bad experience, it really put me off.

Just reading your replies and not feeling so alone helps - thank you ladies, so much x

Hi Lynda. I’m about 9 years post meno and I’m only now feeling that I’m becoming more settled both physically and mentally. I’m assuming now that my own hormones are doing nothing and that they are rock bottom. I’m on a low dose of HRT and feel quite balanced. What I do know is that if I wasn’t supplementing estrogen by even this small amount I would still be having a lot of quite severe symptoms even after all this time. I still have brain fog, not great sleeping and occasional sweats. So for some people, I think it can take quite a few years for things to settle down .

Floradora, thank you for your reply. It makes me realise that to still be struggling after 7 years is probably normal for me.

It’s also good to hear that the low dose of HRT keeps you feeling balanced, I wish I hadn’t had such a bad experience with it as it’s made me wary of trying it again.

Hi Lynda,

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I'm just over 2 years postmeno (last period was in January 2020), and I'm really hoping that things will settle down. I'm quite surprised that after all this time you're still struggling.  Yes, once oestrogen has reached it's lowest level it stays permanently low and there's hardly any fluctuation going on.  A lot of ladies on this forum may beg to differ but, although the menopause is irreversible and permanent,  its symptoms, especially the psychological ones, cannot possibly last forever and ever.

As for HRT, I, too, am not on iit.  I started taking a supplement called Femarelle Recharge to help with low mood and anxiety, my most troublesome symptoms.
This product promotes nornal psychological and cognitive functions.  It's supposed to be very good.  Maybe you should try it and see if it works for you if you're reluctant to go on HRT.

Hi Lynda,
I also had awful experience when I first tried HRT, my second attempt with the same prescription was totally different, no side effects at all. Hope this helps x

That’s a pity you had a bad experience Lynda07. However, many of us ( me included) found that the first HRT they tried was a disaster. Particularly because in the past GPs tended to prescribe quite a high dose to start with. Nowadays there are some good low and ultra low dose options to try that may be worth a shot to see if they alleviate your symptoms. X

I understand your situation totally Linda, as I'm the same.  I feel as though I should not feel so bad at 64 .  I take local oestrogen, that's all, but like you I tried HRT once and had a bad experience and feel terrified of it happening again.  I feel really trapped some days and feel generally unhappy so my sympathies to you x

Hi KarineT. Thank you for your reply. My symptoms don’t seem to be improving at all, I hadn’t heard of Femarelle Recharge but will certainly look it up as anxiety is a key symptom for me.

Stella2, yes it does help - thank you, I guess there has to be some tweaking until you get what is right for you. I remember now I had an Everol Conti patch.

Floradora, I didn’t know any of that, I wish I could remember the dose I was on previously.

Suzysunday, I am so sorry you feel trapped and unhappy, I know just what you mean so you have my sympathies too xx
