Orestrogel and utrogestan = period?
« on: April 11, 2022, 12:06:14 PM »

Hi all. Can anyone advise me please. Was using evorel conti patches and doc recommended I try oestrogel and utrogestan. My last period was
In 2013. I am 54 and mentioned that I have sweats in bed (not flushes :)). I was reading the side effects (frightening) and I wanted to know if with these medicines I would actually bleed again. I do not want this. Any advice greatly appreciated- thanks

Hi Splendid

I believe the bleeding pattern will depend on how you have been prescribed to take the Utrogestan, because it can be used daily (works like a continuous) or in a sequential (you take for 12 days out of 28 to bring on a bleed).

One would imagine that if you were on Evorel continuous that you would be on a daily version - does it say on the outside of your prescription at all?

As above, if you use it as a conti regime and are meno you shouldn't bleed. If you're still peri you may have breakthrough bleeding, some women aren't meno til their early 60s. If you use it as a sequi regime you should bleed.

Hi Splendid, if it's any help I've been on this regime since December (hadn't used HRT before). I use one pump of Estrogel twice daily then one progesterone tablet at night. My last period was about two years ago. I had the same concern as you but it's been fine, and I've found it really effective for all my symptoms.

Thanks so much for your comments. It’s really helped as I was a little confused about wether I was to take every day or stop in between as instructions were not clear. I fully understand now. I will give it a go
