Hormone blood test results - 1 month on
« on: April 07, 2022, 11:26:35 AM »

Hi Ladies,

So i chose to take another hormone blood test through Medichecks on Monday. This is a month after my one at Dr Studd clinic.

New results - FSH 1.8
                    Testosterone 1.07
                    Estrodiol 679
                    Free androgen Index 0.8
                    SHBG 141

Now i dont know ANYTHING about SHBG. The Doctor stated on my report that this is slightly raised, but not to worry as could be down to excercise??? Anyone know or help with the above results? xxxx

Found this on Google:

What are normal SHBG levels? The normal ranges for SHBG concentrations in adults are: Males: 10 to 57 nanomoles per liter (nmol/L) Females (nonpregnant): 18 to 144 nmol/L.

Hi Vicky, I think your FAI is low. Therefore  I imagine your Meno Consultant is likely to suggest upping the testosterone. Obviously don't do that without checking. For me if you recall that was the final piece of the puzzle.

Oh stupid me just realised! The free androgen index. Is that a low score then?, the doctor on the report said all is normal apart from  the high SHBG

It is low mainly because your SHBG is a bit high. It's calculated as a ratio. Don't forget though you haven't been taking testosterone very long and it takes much more time to take full effect. So my saying you might need to increase your testosterone is probably a bit premature to be honest. I bet the consultant will want you on it a good three or four months before retesting and then seeing if levels have gone up. Please please remember this is really early days for you.

Also your FSH is low I think, what day of your cycle did you have the test? Just wondering if that might indicate that you are not very far into peri menopause?

I *think* it’s best to measure FSH and oestrogen on day 3-5 as that will be the absolute minimum. Throughout the rest of the cycle they can naturally vary so much so don’t tell you a great deal.

Therefore if FSH is raised (greater than 30) on day 3-5 (ie when lowest) then that’s a good indication that you are in perimenopause.

Yes if you count first day of bleeding as Day 1

Sorry I mean FSH is at its maximum day 3. Oestrogen is at its minimum.
