Hi All,

I was taking Oestrogel through Louise Newson's clinic for 3 months without a Progesterone to allow me to get used to it. I am now taking Utrogestan with the Oestrogel, the Utrogestan is giving me horrible weird symptoms. I want to know if I could take a compounded bio identical Progesterone cream with the body identical Oestrogel? Has anyone or is anyone doing it?

I would not have thought that the progestone cream would be strong enougth to oppose the oestrogen?  I might be wrong though?
What about trialling the utro vaginally? Or switching to a different progesterone?

I am sure others will be along to advise.

Is it the well springs cream by any chance?

Hi Nas, thanks for your reply, I just thought I would go and see a bioidentical doctor for the Progesterone. I have been told I can do the Utrogestan for 7 days a month but I find the withdrawal is awful!

Ah okay, just be careful then.
You need to have enough progesterone to oppose the oestrogen, else you could get a lining build up, later on down the line.

I am not sure these creams are sufficient, but am sure you will be advised appropriately.

How many pumps are you using per day? There is a member on here who does use a compounded progesterone but its done through a clinic, will find her post. I use utrogestan for 10 days every other month, I use the 100mg as I cannot tolerate the 200mg, I use it vaginally. It is Mary G look at her thread in alternate therapies on compounded hormones.

Thanks Nas & Cassie I am taking 4 pumps of Oestrogel and I have been told I can take 100mg of Utrogestan for 7 days in every month orally, so I have been told to stop the Utrogestan till 1 May then do 7 days and stop again till 1 June and so on! I am worried about it and I am worried about the withdrawal. So I thought why not try a compounded Progesterone. I am sure this should not be so hard! Men can just pop to Boots and buy Viagra for their issues lol

Thats quite a lot of gel you could try the utrogestan vaginally it seems to get to the area it needs to protect easier, without having to bypass the liver, see if it makes a difference.

Yes, absolutely you can. The doctor that you see will know how much to use and will check your lining with regular scans. Unlike NHS GPs, all docs who prescribe compounded hormones are hormone specialists, often endocrinologists, so you get value for your money.

I think you should consider your decision carefully, there are many red flags. You're on a high dose of oestrogen so you need either to be certain you're taking sufficient progesterone or you have regular scans. I assume you know you have an increased cancer risk with a thickened lining? When you take licensed medication you can be certain it contains exactly what it it says it does and nothing else and it's quality controlled. That isn't the case with compounded progesterone, there is no medical oversight so you need to make sure it comes from a reputable source. It does have a place for those who have been down the medical route and have been unable to find a licensed product they can tolerate. You have only tried utrogeston so I would strongly advise you to try other licensed products first, perhaps provera or a mirena, and leave compounded for a final attempt if nothing else will do. It's usually weaker as it's designed for those unable to tolerate anything else so agree with the above, it may not be sufficient for your dose of gel.

Thank you so much for your responses and information, it’s such a hard thing to decide and what a mine field! At the moment the consultant has put me on 7 days of Utrogestan 100mg. So I’m just on  Oestrogel at the moment and will re start the Utrogestan on 1 May. I will see how it goes.
