Hi, I've not posted in a long time but I'm hoping someone can reassure me...im 50 and 3 years post meno...I had very minute pink spotting after sex last week and discomfort (which ive had for last few months and just got myself some YES) saw gp, was sent to see specialist and told all OK after internal exam and scan, but no real answers as to why. I'm not on HRT. I have a bladder prolapse and today had tiny specks of blood again (not after sex) and thinking it came from tissue paper friction?? Sorry TMI but when I dab at prolapse it bleeds. Please tell me someone else has experienced this?? I'm assuming all part of vaginal atrophy?? But worrying too. Im not having regular sex and now scared to after spotting!! I know I've been much drier and sex has not been very comfortable of late but im not getting huge VA symptoms ive read about... I was told cervix and womb all OK and smear in October 21 negative. Any wise words gratefully received. Thanks x

This sounds like VA symptoms to me. You  could ask for some local oestrogen treatment - no point in waiting until it gets worse. The whole genitourinary system is oestrogen dependent. Let us know how you get on

I have an anterior and posterior prolapse and I started having small amounts of spotting after sex.  This was during lockdown so couldn’t see anyone about it for ages.  Then I started suffering with full scale vaginal atrophy ie) could hardly walk or sit down and was in a lot of pain.  I had no idea what was causing my symptoms.  I was eventually seen by a GP and was eventually prescribed vaginal oestrogen and steroid ointment, which has helped.

As you’ve been checked out for anything else, I’d suggest going back to your GP and asking for oestrogen.  Probably TMI again, but if my prolapse is protruding more than it does at other times, the soreness and spotting are worse, as you say because it’s rubbing.  You need to get it addressed before it gets any worse, as mine did.  Hope this helps.

Thanks so much both. I'm pretty sure it is the prolapse...sorry to sound stupid but is it the bladder that is protruding or is it pushing the vaginal wall lower and thats whats protruding and rubbing?? As this is what is bleeding from what I can see. I'm really scared of any kind of hrt because of a history of breast lumps but I know I may need to bite the bullet. Have you tried vaginal moisturisers ? Have these helped? I think my oestrogen has definitely dropped massively in the last 6 months as I can see it in my skin so this is probably the same everywhere 😩 x

It is the bladder pushing on the vaginal wall. Vaginal oestrogen is only local and will just treat the affected area. Moisturisers can be useful in conjunction with local oestrogen but you defo need the oestrogen.

Dont be worried about local estrogen, it doesn't go systemic as its such a minut dosage and safe. You need to ask your GP to refer you for physiotherapy for your prolapse and Vagifem and Ovestin local estrogen. This will restore the loss of oestrogen that is casing the atropy and prolapse. It wiil take a  while to work but be patient and dont give up, You will need to take this for life but it is managable.

You may have a caruncle due to the prolapse lowering.  I have one and first presented to the GP with a small amount of pinkish discharge in my pants.  I was sent for a tranvaginal scan to be on the safe side and all was okay there. My caruncle has got bigger with the muscle lowering and doesn't bleed but i have read that they can. There is info online but if you look it up there are also caruncles of the eye. My GP did not diagnose my caruncle until she could actually see it. Ovestin is given to help.

Hi sorry, not been on for a few days. I was doing what I thought were pelvic floor exercises to support my prolapse but I started getting period like cramps, went to gp and then was sent for a scan. This was at start of first lockfown. I was told all OK with scan and advised to go to a women's physio (?). I found a good one and worked with her for a few weeks and she told me to stop with the exercises as I was doing them incorrectly and apparently causing the cramping. Ever since I've not done anything about my prolapse...😖

Her job though was to show you how to do them correctly. Were you offered bio feedback or any other help? Was this NHS?

Have you looked into pessaries?

If things are really bad no amount of excercise will help,
