Testosterone increase reporting back
« on: March 30, 2022, 10:41:45 AM »

In case this might help others -
Quick history I had hysterectomy and oophorectomy last June. Since then I have been on 5 pumps of oestrogel and I was making a tube of testim last 10 days. When I had blood tests at Christmas, my oestrogen levels were good around 600 but testosterone was 1.1 and FAI was also low 1.1. Soooo my consultant at NH said anything less than 2 for FAI is considered low and she recommended making a tube of testim last 1 week instead. She felt this would sort out last vestiges of energy/ anxiety/ mental alertness.
Anyway I thought I would let you know that I am just starting to feel a very positive difference in all three areas. It's hard to explain but I am starting to feel mentally strong again. I  do hope I don't jinx myself by saying that!
Maybe for those finding difficulty in resolving anxiety it might not be oestrogen that needs adjusting but testosterone. Particularly those of us without ovaries testosterone is so important. And the right dosage!

Hi gnatty!

Thanks so much. I'm on testim too.

I started the increase about middle of January but had been on the lower dose for about 12 months. But obviously you wouldn't want to increase testosterone without levels being checked. If I remember rightly you haven't been on it very long anyway, so you won't know for a few months yet whether the amount you are taking is sufficient.

Hi Gnatty that’s great you’re feeling better & really useful to know. Are there two types of testosterone tests? Testosterone and FAI. Any idea what the difference might be?
(I was only given one reading by the surgeon). Thinking I will add my testosterone back in once I’m more at an equilibrium.
Thank you for update and hope it continues to go in right direction. 👍🏼

Gnatty - Thanks for sharing. It’s brilliant that you feel mentally strong. Peri/meno causes a lot of self doubt and confidence damage that is difficult to recognise, especially with insomnia and anxiety. It’s wonderful to see you through the other side and feeling good!

Louise - here’s a link to a testosterone calc:

Thanks Victoria V. I’m unsure if my reading of 2.9 is total testosterone or FAI.
If it’s free then I’m under by a fair amount as it should be between 7 and 10 for women. I was told the normal range was 0.1. -1.42 by the surgeon. Bit confused.  ;D

Hi Louise,
You need the total T and SHBG levels to get the FAI. We’re you prescribed Testosterone after having the blood test?

No on symptoms alone by another consultant (private). The surgeon and another Dr said I should come off the testosterone but I wasn’t tested for SHBG. So how would they have been able to come to that conclusion. Feeling v tired, low libido but as you know I’m still trying to get my sleep back on track! 🤣 if it not one thing it’s another !

Hi Louise, I think you are right to focus on your sleep. That is your first job I think. We can't make decisions when we are suffering sleep deprivation! Then you will be in a position to reassess your hormones, get some blood tests and re-evaluate.  Try and rest up,  it's still early days x
