Utrogesten positive experiences
« on: March 13, 2022, 08:40:27 PM »

Hi I’m new and just been prescribed HRT for perimenopause - I’m nearly 43. I have oestrogen patches and utrogesten to take 14 days a month. Please can anyone share any positive experiences of utrogesten? Im really anxious about taking it as I think I may slightly react to my own bodies progesterone every month and I’ve read so many stories about how woman struggle with it and they can't tolerate it and some who have even had to stop taking HRT because of it.  Any reassuring positive experiences would be really welcome. Thank you

Hi cats4242,

Ive been taking utrogestan orally for 3 and a half years, without any problems whatsoever,   so, not everyone has side effects, its worth a go. /( I did try virginally for a little while, but that gave me cramps)!

Good luck

Hi cats4242
One great thing about progesterone is that it will really help you sleep at night. If you can use it vaginally that may also help you tolerate it better. There have also been threads on here about the minimum days you can take it for for example 10 or 12 days only and then making sure you have regular scans to check the lining of your womb is doing ok. Perhaps have a little search on here and it may help you in your decision?
My personal experience is that it gave me pmt before my bleed which was tolerable in my 40s. (However I had fibroids so my experience may have been different to others without fibroids.)
It is tricky however I feel it really is a trial and error process at the moment until a better method for exact prescribing comes along one day.🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I was about to ask the same question cats4242

I'm thinking of changing over to it as I'm on Evorel Sequi and just been told that the progesterone for that is not identical to our own.  I think it's fine for some but I do get breast pain with it and I had a benign growth removed from my breast ten years ago, so I'm wary.  I've done well on it for a couple of years, but thinking of changing over, so will be interested in other's experiences too.  :)
