Hi everyone.

I am perimenopausal. almost 49yrs old (Jesus!)

To me this is crazy, I always thought 'meh, symptoms won't affect me, it's all in your head, a banana and a coffee will sort me out' 

What an idiot!

The list of symptoms I have is ridiculous, but this will not be news to you of course.  When I was talking to the Dr on the phone about my 'issues' I am pretty sure she had a little nap 😂

Last night my Husband picked up my HRT (wahoo) so now just the wait for my next period to start then it all kicks off, good or bad who knows yet!

Today is a good day, I've not cried once and I can remember how to turn the oven on (yay go me)

Right, well The Change...  I am hopefully on the way to some sort of normality.

I'd got the HRT tabs but was gutted to realise I couldn't just start taking them immediately and I had to wait until I started my period which was a week away.  For years my period has been like clockwork, every 3 weeks on the dot.
Bizarrely last night, 1 week early I start my period.  Either it's just a spooky coincidence and this was going to happen anyway OR our bodies are cleverer than I thought and because it knows I am desperate to start HRT it thought 'come on let's get this started ASAP' and it manifested my bleed 1 week early.  Crazy!

Anyway, I started my first tablet last night, exciting times (I hope)

Reading the possible issues I could face was worrying especially since they are mostly what I am trying to get rid of with the HRT but now I am adding the risk of breast cancer and a blood clot into the mix which is lovely NOT 

I am coming back as a man next time.  A bit of baldness, shave hair off, look 10 years younger, go to a club and pick up a 26 year old woman and live happily ever after.  EASY!

Do you know why you were prescribed tablet rather than patch or gel? There is no increased risk of blood clot via those routes although I believe the risk is still pretty small with tablet.

I asked for the patch but the Dr as good as laughed and said 'good luck with that'
Just a case of I had to have what was in stock unfortunately.  So anyone on patches, congrats!

re Hi i am new to the forum (post meno) I am 59 years old I tried everol conti patches 2 years ago for just over a year , had a lot of side effects, had to have  biopsy done problems with irregular bleedingtold to stop everol conti. doctor said it looks like hrt doesnt work for you and you are to old to be on it due to high blood pressure problems , went to see different doctor she said its never to late to take hrt she give me  estradiol gel two pumps once daily. and utrogestan 100mg caps one to be taken at night because i still have a womb get a lot of water infections and suffer with anxiety, should i take hrt for the second time at my age thanks

Started Evorel 25 in Oct. Helped stop my headaches and sweats but sleeping still awful.
I was increased to Evorel 50 and have since totally gone to pot.
Can’t stop crying, very irritable and emotional. Off work with stress.
Was given gel to try with patch too, but not seeing much improvement.
Got an appt on Weds to see about getting antidepressants which I know are not recommended for low mood with with peri menopause but I literally can’t function.
This menopause lark is crap isn’t it 😢

sky247 - yes.  Take the HRT.  It may take a while for your symptoms to ease .  As for 'water infections', they probably aren't!  Vaginal atrophy mimics repeated urine infection-type symptoms really really well.  You need to ask your GP for 'vagifem' or 'ovestin', the idea being is to replace oestrogen lost due to ageing.  Some need a mositorier (sp) in the outer vaginal area as well.  We have a thread on 'vaginal atrophy' as well as 'bladder issues'.  You may be asked for a urine sample which MUST be sent to a Lab. for analysis, a dip stick in the surgery isn't good enough.  ABs are so often prescribed for women with atrophy 

JayneA - Evorel50 may be too much!  How are your periods?  ADs may help until you find an HRT regime that works.  You could ask your GP to refer you to an NHS Menopause Clinic, better sooner than later as there are waiting lists.

To U Both: some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.  To chart progress.  HRT can protect bones and heart.  Regular brisk walking is important to help maintain bone health to avoid osteoporosis.

Hi Jayne, yep it's crap for sure!  I didn't even know there were so many symptoms associated with the menopause, it's crazy how little we know when it pops up on us, it's scary and without somewhere like this place I must admit I would feel very very alone.
I haven't cried for a couple of days now wahoo, I imagine I'll pay for it tomorrow lol.

It is awful what you are going through, getting little to no sleep is literally torture.  That alone can make you feel incredibly bad so on top of everything else...
I hope you get some sort of help on Wednesday.

Hi i take sertraline for my depression and anxiety which started last year. I had no idea it could be linked to my hormones it was never mentioned so I took the antidepressants. They have helped, they've pulled me up from rock bottom, to a place where I can function again. I do still struggle with anxiety so I've recently started a low dose of HRT. Hoping the 2 together will make me feel better. Mother nature can be so cruel to us women 😞

Right I am confused (happy but confused)
I am only on day 6 of taking my HRT tabs.  Usually I am sluggish with a 'can't be bothered' attitude which I never was before all this perimenopause crap started.
Anyway, I have a new rescue dog and have been going out in to the garden with her, the past 3 times I have been out I have had this overwhelming feeling of wanting to run up the steps to the garden, so I did!
I feel like I did a billion years ago.
Now surely to God there is no way after taking just 6 tablets I can be feeling any change whatsoever?  Is it just a frame of mind?  Because I have been pondering taking HRT for a while is my brain just 'happy' because I am hopeful on the road to being my old self?

I await a huge crash tonight where I sit rocking, turning the light on and off with a dead look in my eyes.

I’m sensitive to mine, I could be feeling low, take my tablets, and within an hour or so, I feel better.
Maybe it could be frame of mind, maybe it’s the hrt doing it’s thing, 🤷🏼‍♀️ I dunno, but I do know it makes me feel better.

Yes whether it is a placebo or not I am taking it!  I have a twitchy eye and my 2 x tinnitus have turned themselves up to 11 but at the moment I feel great so I am not going to complain lol
