Changing HRT, mainly due to anxiety
« on: March 02, 2022, 05:22:06 AM »

Hi everyone

I’m 44 and started with mild peri symptoms five years ago. I decided to try HRT last year and was put on Evorel Sequii in October ‘21. I had a terrible first bleed but everything settled after that.

Since the new year I’ve started to feel some mild anxiety and it’s built to the point it’s actually become quite distressing. Ive been absolutely full of adrenaline and not able to function properly for a few days and called the gp out of desperation and, if I’m honest, a little bit of fear yesterday.

As well as the anxiety I’ve seen a return of night sweats, waking in the middle of the night and some minor urinary incontinence but I do also have very mild MS which could be behind that.

My GP was wonderful and prescribed  some low strength diazepam to help with the immediate issue, a longer term anti-depressant and anxiety medication. She’s also suggested that I stop the Sequii and go on separate evorel 75 patches with utrogestan 100mg. Does this sound like the right course of action? I’ve been reading but struggle to get my head round it all. I’d be grateful for any thoughts anyone might have on that.

Thanks!

Hello WobblyNic. Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear how anxious you have been. I am really pleased to hear how supportive your GP is. I am unable to tolerate the combined patch and have just started separate estogen patches and utrosestan 100 vaginally. I only took my first one last night. I hope this new regime works for you. I also take an antidepressant and could not be without it. You will find lots of support on here.  :)

Hi WobblyNic. It sounds as if you have a good GP which makes such a difference. The progesterone in Evorel is Norethisterone which is known to cause anxiety and PMT type symptoms in some women. Your new regime sounds good. It takes up to three months to settle on any HRT so it's a good idea to bear this in mind should you get initial side effects.
