Using Ovestin
« on: February 22, 2022, 08:23:38 PM »

Does anybody know if it is okay to use ovestin cream every night until vaginal atrophy symptoms reduce? I have been using it for 3 months and I am still in a lot of pain. I know you are meant to reduce it to two nights a week. I am just wondering if using it every night could make symptoms worse.

Yep.  Every night is fine.  When my symptoms are niggling, I put a dose up mid-afternoon as well as the evening one.  If I get the need2P feelings, I take 2 Nurofen capsules 3 times a day to relax the urine flow.

Thank you so much for reassuring me. The menopause DR I spoke to was shocked I was using it every night and I worried I may be using it too much.

'menopause doctor' where exactly  :-\.   :bang: :bang: :bang:

There is such a small amount of active ingredient, my GP prescribed it for me even though I had breast disease in the 1990s.

I am using Vagifem every day and because of a recent flare up I use Ovestin cream locally twice a day.
This is now my routine as symptoms can come back so easily, its such a fine line when you can get an attack of VA and you have to do this to keep on top of things.

A menopause Dr from Chelsea and Westminster clinic. I then got concerned as my symptoms feel worse. Thank you for your post.

Thank you for sharing this. It is very helpful. You are so right, we have to try to stop it getting worse as it is so painful.

It was one of the other doctors at my surgery that suggested I see another doctor who was a gynaecologist.  What a stroke of luck that was, she was using VA treatment herself and used vagifem every day.
She knew exactly what I needed and as time went on I knew I needed the help of Ovestin to use locally. I wrote an E-Consult and a prescription was ready for me to pick up the following day.

Just to mention also that a moisturiser is important also in treating VA, I use Sylk which I find perfect for me.

I am so pleased you found a good doctor. The menopause doctor suggested I use E45 cream to help moisturise and act as a barrier cream. I use Sylk to apply the ovestin as I am unable to put it in without it. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

MayB she needs educating:  Give her a copy of Me and My Menopausal Vagina to read ;-)

And if necessary, an extra dose this afternoon.
