Oestrogel Manufacturer Shortage?
« on: January 24, 2022, 10:53:58 AM »

Hi,

I'm slightly panicking as I've been taking Oestrogel for the last eight years.

My chemist has said today that they can't fulfil the prescription as the manufacturer is out of stock in the UK & they can't order it anymore & I need to speak to the Dr about an alternative prescription if I still need it.

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

Hi Rae123,

I've not encountered this yet but I checked British Menopause Society's website

https://thebms.org.uk/2022/01/british-menopause-society-further-update-on-hrt-supply-shortages-20-january-2022/

I hope this helps and good luck.  :)

I managed to get mine from the Online Pharmacy. Give it a go. Your GP should be able to email your prescription directly to them.

I read someone say they same thing a few weeks ago and was worried I wouldn't get mine, just had an hrt review and gp gave me 12 months worth (18 bottles) collected from the chemist no problem, no mention of a shortage by my gp or chemist.

I have been prescribed lenzetto by my gp as my pharmacy have told me that they can no longer supply oestrogel as they can’t get stock and they think it is being discontinued so the doctors are switching everyone to lenzetto! My gp didn’t inform me of the change and I was only made aware of it when I went to pick up my prescription! They have prescribed 1 spray a day which I believe is far lower dose than the 3 pumps of oestrogel that I currently use, I have requested a call from the gp today to talk about the dose but they haven’t bothered to ring me back! I am really concerned about how much to use as I have only just got my dose sorted on oestrogel again after symptoms returned 6 months ago,  so not sure if to use 1, 2 or 3 sprays of lenzetto to match the 3 pumps of oestrogel that I’m currently using as I really can’t face having all those symptoms return by not having the correct dosage! Has anyone else swapped from oestrogel to lenzetto and what dose did you use to match any previous dose? This is such a minefield and so frustrating when you find something that works only for it to be in short supply or discontinued!

Hi the shortage of Oestrogel is only short term. Have a look at the link posted above. x

Lenzetto is weaker than Oestrogel. One spray of Lenzetto = approx 0.5 - 1 pump Oestrogel. The shortage of Oestrogel is due to high demand, so it should become available again eventually.

Thanks very much for the helpful replies. :) I'll show the BMS link to my chemist I think as there's an email for them to contact the Oestrogel manufacturer... and well done Amazing Grace, I wish I could persuade my GP to give me a years supply- it would save so much hassle with repeat prescriptions etc.. ! otherwise I might try the online pharmacy.. thanks everyone  :) :)
