Hi there
« on: January 11, 2022, 06:26:29 AM »

My name is Janette, I am 57 years old and am really struggling with the menopause.  I went nearly a year last year without a period, then one came along in Sept, but nothing since so me and my doctor are assuming that I am now in the menopause.  I already suffer from anxiety so that aspect has really taken off along with a general feeling of depression, which is new.  I’ve come on here to see if there are any other women like me, as I can’t find much info on how pre-existing mental illnesses can be affected.  I also can’t seem to find out if HRT will help alleviate it or make it worse.  Hopefully someone here can help!

Morning.  You will fit in, many have similar symptoms.   :welcomemm:

Are you taking anything to ease the anxiety and depression?

MayB keeping a mood/symptom/food diary would be useful.  To chart progress.  It is easy to lose sight of how many 'good' days we have!  It may be worthwhile asking for appropriate treatment whilst considering if you need HRT.

Browse round.  Make notes.

for a proper discussion about it as well as my pre-existing anxiety, for which I take antidepressants, but they don’t seem to be working (which if it’s hormones driving it, I don’t suppose they would).

I can't understand why GPs give an anti-depressant to treat anxiety.   :(.  There are appropriate anti-anxiety medications ......... short courses of 'valium' can help one see the wood for the trees, there are emergency meds for when anxiety strikes.  Both can be addictive so need to be administered under GP supervision.  I have never had any problems with either method as I know they work for me.

Some HRT can help but it may take months to find out which.

Hi everyone - yes, I take anxiety/depression medication, which have just been adjusted with the dose - I have had anxiety/depression all my life.  I had a long conversation with one of the 2 go HRT specialists just before Christmas, and will be going to see the other in person this Friday to talk about the options
