HRT and heart issues
« on: December 31, 2021, 10:27:00 AM »

Hello everyone and happy new year to all!

I’ve been on HRT for about 9 months. Oestrogel and utrogestan. I’m peri and my main reason for taking it is to stabilise my moods. I was Jeckyll and Hyde for the month. Two weeks of each. HRT has been a godsend for mood stabilisation.

But … a few months ago, I had something similar to / or was myocarditis. The cardiologist put it down to the fact I had a virus and before I had symptoms, I had the flu jab and it all put my heart under strain. I’ve never had heart issues before.

HRT has been a bit marmite for me. I mention the above about mood stabilisation and it’s been great. But I get terrible insomnia from the utrogestan (I know that’s unusual but I’m very sensitive to progesterone). And I just have a feeling that the heart issue might not have happened had it not been for the HRT. I haven’t felt healthy for a while and I’m a fit person. I ran a half marathon in October.

I’ve had bloods etc done so I know there’s no underlying issues. Including thyroid and iron. Of course, with two young children, this winter has been a write off with bugs etc. I had covid in January but I was asymptomatic.

I just don’t feel right. Although I am emotionally stable.

Has anyone else felt the same? Has anyone ended up with heart issues after taking HRT?

Thank

Hi Floodlights,
I start by saying that i have no medical training or any expertise in heart condition and it is reassuring that you have seen a Cardiologist .

My experience : a few months ago i started having what felt like my heart  beating very and frighteningly fast this wasn’t happening every day .

It was a very strange and scary  feeling in my chest that would last seconds to a max of a minute but really didn’t happen frequently to be investigated.

A few months forward , i started getting hot flushes and night sweats and they were all with no exception preceded by that same heart beating uncontrollably fast , so in my case i realised  and it turns out that those were palpitations which some of us get before a hot flush or a night sweats .

These episode of my fast beating continued for a little  while on hrt and now seem to have stopped ,so we’re not caused or a consequence of hrt but somehow related  to the menopause symptoms .
I wonder too if the perfect dosage of oestrogel  could help …

So this is my experience but of course there are so many reasons and the same symptoms could be a reflection of something completely different or more serious .
I find that keeping a diary of how often things happen can help when talking to a Specialist (i am currently  doing that about bleeding with oestrogel and utrogestan .

I have to point out too that i didn’t have any other symptoms like shortness of breath or chest pain common with myocarditis ,only very rapid heartbeat scary heartbeat .

Take care

It may well be hormonal upheaval, several complain of palpitations ......... I think due to a drop in oestrogen but am sure someone will put me 'right' if I'm wrong  ::)
