Aged 43 can’t fall asleep😥
« on: December 26, 2021, 12:57:37 PM »

Im nearly 43 now just would love some relief from all these peri symptoms. Sleep and mood has been the worst. I don’t feel like myself.  After 5 years of being fobbed off I began my HRT journey. Been on Estradot and Utrogestan since the summer. Estradot was 100mcg and then upped to 125mcg over the summer. Utrogestan doesn’t suit me but have to take it. Makes pms even worse. I’m wide awake from ovulation till about Day 2 of my period. When I’m wide awake I can feel my heart pounding through the bight. I sleep on average twice a week when not wide awake for a few hours. I feel it’s hormonal insomnia  I religiously follow all sleep hygiene and low GI diet. Just finding it all so hard with two young kids.
Anyone found  any relief with sandrena or lenzetto??
Any advice is appreciated x

Hi,
Sorry you are struggling with insomnia, I’ve got it also unfortunately.

I take 25mg Amitriptyline most nights to help me sleep, else I’d never work or do anything.

Are you absorbing the Estradot do you think? Maybe it would be worth requesting a blood test to check?

If not absorbing, definitely try a different regime. I’ve heard lenzetto is quite weak, compared to gel, so not sure how many sprays you would need to gain relief. Worth a shot though, if your O levels are still low.

Hope you get sorted soon x

Insomnia feeds itself  >:(.  I would lay awake going through everything that required doing the next day, thinking that I would never stay awake long enough.  I did.  I have found that stretching and relaxing the muscle groups from toes upwards can help, it focuses the mind.  Do U have a sleep routine?

Does the insomnia correspond with the time you're on utrogeston (plus a couple of days to get out of your system)? There isn't much choice for progesterone but some people who can't tolerate utro are fine on provera, or you could try a mirena. If it doesn't seem to be connected to utro I agree testing your oestrogen levels could be helpful, although you're on a high dose if you don't absorb it well you could be deficient. Do you have other meno symptoms that have or haven't been controlled?

Hi

What happened when you trialled the estrogen??? On the days you didn't take utrogestan?

Just asking as I've been suffering hugely with symptoms for years, I'm 45 now. The estrogen part of hrt sent me off the scale.

I don't need extra estrogen yet. But I'm told my progesterone is low - it's very early days for me going down this track so I cant say it it's going to work.

Just a thought. But your days on estrogen only would tell u...

CrispyChick I think estrogen only days were a bit better for me initially. The patch didn’t seem to work for me. I changed it twice a week. I’m sensitive to progesterone and the Utrogestatan made my PMS even worse.

Hope things get sorted for us. Big hugs x

CLKD .. I do have a sleep routine, the problem is definitely hormonal.

Sheila thanks that’s useful. I do have other Meno symptoms but  sleep is the hardest one.

Thanks Nas. Just not sure when to have these blood tests from what I hear our hormones fluctuate wildly from day to day.
