I went through our loft space recently and gave away baubles etc. that we won't use.  We have inherited large pieces of furniture so I don't dress the rooms the same, even the tree hasn't come down from the loft for 3 years  .  I need to move stuff this week as I really would like it on display this year: pulled down, branches straightened, lights plugged in: Hey Presto 

On it are decorations from years gone by: a couple from my Paternal Grandma's tree .  Others are small ones that Mum emboirdered i.e. in the shape of bells, holly leaves; tinsel wrapped round, a wobbly angel/fairy on top. 

I also have a bamboo cane across the window on which I put wooden hearts and glass ornaments, some remain there all year.  I don't have a colour theme so it's a bright mix of various bits around the lounge, hallway and cards get stood in the kitchen.

I also have a birthday around that time so those cards are stood on the window sill

Our tree is full of memories, I love remembering where and when we bought the decorations, or who gave them to us.  Our tree is 32 years old, we do say maybe we should get a new tree but we don’t find one we like better, it was expensive when we bought it but its still lovely 

We were laughing at how when we were children our parents hung decorations across the ceiling, looking closely for the drawing pin hole from previous years, unless the ceiling had been painted then it was impossible to find

 . yep.  As they aged grandparents really weren't safe to stand on a chair but wanted the rooms dressed B4 we arrived  .

Grandma had a bay window and the real tree stood there annually.  No idea what happened to it after but usually they were in a pot so probably went into the earth until the next C.mas.

We made coloured paper chains .......... to be strung across the ceiling or over the pelmet where Mum would stand the cards as they arrived.  She would put cotton wool along the black mantlepiece and stand small figures to make it look like a C.mas scene.  Any1 remember the small figures put onto iced C.mas cakes each year?

We have decorations from when the kids were born, stuff they made, my in-laws old ornaments, my grandfather's ornaments plus stuff we received as gifts.  We have so many but they manage to find a spot on the tree. 
Haven't gotten around to going to get one yet, there is a reported shortage so we may have to get one soon.  We like a Balsam or Fraser Fir, they smell so nice and last pretty long.
The wreath went up yesterday, along with dh's new 6ft. lighted snowman. We still need to do the garland on the porch railing and the lights on the house.

I love the idea of your snowman.  Where will he live the rest of the year?

I bought an Autumn wreath up at the start of November, which the birds have pecked  - it has red 'berries' and attracted probably tits.  I need to remove that and put the next one on the front door, it means going into the loft.

Tomorrow DH is taking the old enormous tree to the dump. Last year was the last year I was prepared to put it up as I fell off the step ladder into it! The last few years I have put off put off putting it up and then wrapping all the lights round it in a space far too small for it. Exhausting! Sad to see it go. My son bought it because we were making do with a smaller tatty one as we were strapped for money. He spent all his Saturday job money on it.  Cost him a £100ish 20 years ago!  The new one is shorter ( no step ladder required)  with arms and integral lights. No acrobatics required. No colour coded branches(colour clues have disappeared on some) to slot in. Hopefully this one will last as long. I bought it in the January sales, so while still expensive, not breathtakingly. DS send photos of the family collecting a real tree and bringing it home on a cycle trailer. 10 mile round trip for all the family cycling in the snow, including the 3year old. (No one’s told him he’s only 3 !) And a photo of the installed tree complete with decorations.

I bet if you stand it outside Ju Ju someone will want it ;-).  Especially if they think that they are stealing it so mayB put a  £20.00 label on it.  Is that cycling with the tree recently?  A great memory :-)))))

Trouble is we can’t leave it anywhere it could be seen. We share a long drive and when it gets to the road, there’s nowhere to put it where it won’t be run over! 

The photos are from a couple of days ago. Must clean the lounge tomorrow then put up the new 🌲.

I'm getting quite interested now ......... going to drag our tree from the loft and walk round the house trying to fit it in.  I fear that the elephant in the corner of the room gets it ...... in order to make space

He will live in the garage after Christmas so he can dry out and then dh will flatten all his parts and put him back into the flat box he came in, and stored with the rest of the decorations in the basement.
Dh put up the house lights in very gusty cold winds and said that was enough for the day.  We still need to put the deer and the garland, too windy for that now.

Can’t be bothered to send hubby in loft to get Xmas decs boxes.  Don’t usually put them up this early anyway.

My tree went up on 1st Dec....my birthday. Traditionally it's my son Adam who puts the tree up and he hates it. It's one of those with each branch colour coded that goes on seperately . I bought it nearly 20 years ago for £19.99....reduced from £120 in a closing down sale. I can't resist a bargain but didn't realise about the branches being seperate. Adam whining and moaning has become as much as Xmas as Turkey and mince pies....I think he just does it for effect now. I also have a large wicker snowman with lights....it's years old and I'm always amazed it still actually works. I love candles so have a few Christmassy ones .....they smell of cinnamon and spice. My three sons are in their thirties now but I've kept the decs they made at primary school. Then there's my 'Xmas family' as I call them....a collection of cuddlies with scarves and hats. My living room is quite small so it's all a bit Santa's grotto. I've all the boys with me since lockdown so I'm looking forward to us all being together.....along with Mr.Darcy the gentleman cat. He arrived along with my eldest son....who got custody of the cat when his relationship broke down. Keeping him from  climbing the free is a pain but he's so cute I forgive him...the cat that is...not my son.

Every year I am amazed at the amount of decorations up in the attic - again, looking at the boxes earlier, I had forgotten most of them.

How did you spend your birthday - was there

I had a lovely birthday. My sons, the youngests g/f, my partner and I all went out for lunch. My son had rang ahead and we managed to get a table where we could all sit together. It's strange how we can't arrange things on the hoof now....b@#%%y Covid!
I insisted on no cake as I'm on a diet but was easily talked into having some anyway.

Speaking of diets....poor Mr.Darcy is on a diet. The vet said he was a bit too heavy at his last check up. Poor wee thing is only allowed half a teaspoon of tuna as a treat....still ...it's for his own good ....I swear he gave me a dirty look when I gave him the tuna today.
