Not sure what is going on?
« on: November 06, 2021, 05:47:20 PM »

I posted recently about vaginal dryness and a possible Lichen Sclerosus diagnosis - which I have a private appointment for in 2 weeks.  I'm in my late 40's.
I still have periods and have a history of mental health issues. I have been stable for a couple of years. Last week before my period my anxiety was high and I had a full blown panic attack at the end of my period, which I haven't had for years. I've done an fsh test and it has come back positive. My mum, her sister and my sister all had breakdowns during the menopause and I'm so scared i'll go down the same path. Just needed to vent really 😪

You vent away!  fhs test ? +ive mean what exactly.

Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary?  Something 2 take to the appt. .

R U having treatment for vaginal atrophy, it is important to get this under control as soon as possible.

Hormonal upheaval can be difficult - 'breakdowns' mean what : if you can explain a little more how your Sister, Mum and Aunt suffered?

This too will pass.

Thanks so much for your reply.
It's an online urine test and apparently it can test if you are menopausal?
The appt is for The Lichen Sclerosis but that's a good idea to keep a diary as they may be able to help me with the other symptoms as well. I am currently on a steroid ointment for it. Will discuss the safety of oestrogen creams at my appointment as there is a slight increased risk of vulval cancer with LS, which does worry me :(
They all suffered with agoraphobia, anxiety and panic attacks and all had time off work. My mum was under the care of the mental health team, as her symptoms were so debilitating.

I am afraid that urine hormone tests are reliably un-reliable.  My Gynae goes on symptoms which is where the diary is helpful.

Deciding about Quality of Life is the most important issue, it may be years B4 cancers occur when we take HRT. Being overweight, drinking too much alcohol, lack of exercise are higher risks than the small dose of vaginal atrophy treatment.

If the urine test has sat around for days: i.e. in the postal system, then in a Lab., it might not give a 'true' reading.  Also, it is important for the urine to be taken at specific times of the month ........... I don't understand 'positive' for fsh.

Let us know how you get on and I know it's not easy, try not to worry.
