Hello ladies, this is my first post - at the age of 62, I am well into my menopause.    I have been so stressed over the last few days with a whole list of symptoms - so apologies in advance for such a long post.
And also apologies if this is tmi!
After sex last week I has the most excruciating stinging when I peed.   This carried on for about 24 hours, so I just put it down to one of those things.
Next day I had a yellow, odourless, discharge.   This got worse and I assumed it was a bv so bought an over the counter remedy.   But … it got worse and more persistent so I emailed the surgery and was prescribed metronidazole which I started taking yesterday. 

Yesterday evening I had a pink discharge, so now completely panicked.      On top of that, I was up pretty much every hour to pee.   And feel sore down there - slight stinging in vagina/vulva??   What the heck is going on?    Waiting for call back from GP but just wondered if anyone has experienced similar symptoms?  I am not on any kind of HRT

Vaginal atrophy - would be my next bar of chocolate on it!

Browse round.  Do read the 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy' threads.  When your GP rings this afternoon ask for 'vagifem'.  This is used to plump up the vaginal tissues which may become thin with the lack of oestrogen = bladder pains and nipping. I swallow 2 'nurofen' capsules 3 times a day when I feel the need2P followed by that nip as the sphincter shuts off the urine flow.

'vagifem' or 'ovestin' are put into the vagina for 2-3 weeks initially.  Your GP should recognise the symptoms.  Perhaps.    Don't be fobbed off - 'too young', 'no hot flushes so you can't be menopausal' etc..

You are showing all the signs of lack of oestrogen, thinning vaginal wall causing you to have infections in that area, and frequent bladder infections.
Might be time for you to consider starting on HRT and hopefully it will suit you and that you are able to take it.

Thank you both for your replies - I really appreciate your input.  I think it’s the pink discharge that has scared me but the other symptoms, I agree, do seem to point to VA.
Waiting for a call back from GP.  Typically, I’m away from home for a couple of weeks so my surgery has advised me to speak to a local doctors.   We’ll see what they say….

Pink discharge may well be due to thin vaginal tissues which can tear easily.  Is it enough to require a pad?

I’ve been wearing a small pad due to the discharge - which is mainly yellow and occasionally pink🤷‍♀️

Had my wee tested - I do have an infection and dr prescribed Nitrofurantoin which I am having to take alongside the metronidazole for the bv.   That’s all fine but doesn’t address the root cause, which v young male dr didn’t seem to au fait with.   Will make an appointment at my usual surgery when I get home to see where we go from here.

Did the sample get sent to a Lab for growing?  A dip stick test shows nowt!  Time GPs became aware.

Try some pain relief too?

Hi Pianochick, I had similar symptoms to you at 43 but after a couple of months on estrogen they are much improved and pretty much gone. Horrified to realise I had VA at such a young age but it looks like I did! I'm using systemic HRT but you could ask for a pessary or cream which would only be localised HRT. Either way please go to your GP and get it checked out and ask about hrt!
