High oestrogen in blood tests but still believe I'm in peri?
« on: October 24, 2021, 07:51:01 AM »

I've been told by an endocrinologist after 2 lots of blood tests a few months apart that my oestrogen levels were high and my fsh and lh low, he also said my bone density was good. He says I'm not in peri-menopause ---- but I'm sure I am. I'm 43 and having symptoms.

Has anyone else been told this after similar results? How did you move forward?

Ignore a man who is judging on blood tests rather than symptoms?

:welcomemm:  some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.  MayB think which symptom you would like to ease first?  R U under the care of an endocrinologist for any particular reason?  (U don't have to share).

There is a list of symptoms on the Forum somewhere.  Do read the 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy' threads, 4warned is 4armed.  Ask away.

Yes I have been through this many times and suffered because doctors insist on blood tests.  It drives me bonkers, and my Gp who understands nothing about hormones is insisting I have a blood test for Estrogen when I have wild fluctuations.  It’s a battle that we shouldn’t have to have.

Thank you. No not under an endocrinologist for anything else I've just been looking desperately for answers because I suffer debilitating heart palpitations and ectopics for about a week over ovulation and then again just before my period. I assumed it was thyroid because that runs in my family but he basically gave me a clean bill of health. Meanwhile I definitely tick quite a lot of the peri menopause boxes.

It's so frustrating, I guess I go back and hope I can find a more supportive gp.

Ps I did try going back on the pill but I had a very horrible reaction to it, I'm assuming I have an issue with progesterone which may well make hrt impossible ☹️

Can you ask to see a menopause specialist to get the right help?

I had a blood test but because my hormones are always all over the place it was completely unreliable, as yours probably is. No decent menopause specialist prescribes HRT from blood tests. They do it from your symptoms.
I had heart palpitations every night - bloody awful. I did lots and lots research and then went back to my go fully armed so she couldn’t really refuse. I have the gel which carries negligible amount of risk for at least the first year if it’s not actually needed, so she let me try it just to see if it helped my symptoms. Lo and behold it did, almost straight away!
For the progesterone I have a Mirena coil fitted, which is also a contraceptive. The progesterone in it protects your uterus without properly entering your blood stream and so you don’t get the adverse reaction to the progesterone that you would taken other ways. It also means your periods either get lighter disappear completely - although that might be happening anyway!
