How much information do I need to take off and how  if I donate my mobile phone and what do charities do with them other than extract the rare metals etc.?

Depends on the phone. There is loads of info on what to do if you Google 'wiping old mobile phones'

I looked at more up2date mobiles and none fit in my back pockets.

The iPhone will definitely fit in your back pocket and it’s the easiest thing in the world to use.

Not the 1 DH and I tried to fit last week  .  It stuck out too far above the pocket so could easily be taken.  Then I would be in a muddle wondering where I had left it  and I don't need a new one even though Christmas is looming.

That's why I stick to my 15 year old Nokia basic mobile, fits in a front pocket. The smart phone stays on the table at home.

I’ve got a new iPhone and it’s considerably bigger than my old one. No chance of putting it in my tight jeans pocket, so had to resort to a small shoulder bag when out walking in warm weather. Coat pockets are bigger.

If we’re talking about Jeans pockets I wouldn’t get any phone in, can’t even get a tissue in

Long before they were common we had on for out of hours support at work. Bigger and heavier than a brick, you didn't voluntarily go for a walk with it. Known as the lugaphone.
  There's more processing power and storage in a mobile phone than there was in an entire room of the early computers.

There was an item on TV recently about the rooms in Bletchley Park .......... Enigma and all that.  Walls and walls of computers!

I remember when there was no saving facility on computers, if 1 over wrote a sentence it was lost. Forever 

We have cameras in the cars, a thingy that tells us maps and directions (can't remember the name  ) as well as paper maps, well worn.

My sister did a degree in computer science and data processing in the early 70s. A computer took up a room! When she took time out from work, she would had to retrain as technology had and is moving so quickly.

And to think, the country would grind to a halt now without them.

Would it though?  I suppose we should keep a list of regularly used numbers/addresses/e-mails 4 when this happens.  Gigaclear keeps going 'down' in this area, usually from 6.30 on a Friday night  .

If we disappear, it's been nice chatting  .  I will miss you all.

Think of a few weeks ago when Facebook et al went down, it took about 6 hours to reconnect.  What on Earth did people do

It wouldn’t be a problem if social media went down but it would be if the computer network did.  I saw a programme a while back about how the country runs on computers, it was staggering how we rely on them now.
