HRT and chemo?
« on: October 16, 2021, 01:36:35 PM »

Hi, I am having adjuvant chemo (drip and tablets) for post bowel cancer surgery and wonder if it affects the HRT at all? (My HRT regime is Estradot 50 patch and Utrogestan 100mg orally daily at night.)

I have had lots of problems with the Capecitabine tablets and have had a break for a few weeks as they made me ill, ending up in a&e getting my heart checked, which was thankfully ok, it would appear the chemo is affecting my already dodgy oesophagus. I am restarting it all again on Monday at half a dose.

Needless to say it's been a bumpy ride this year, after losing my dear Mum in February and then the shock cancer diagnosis in June and surgery in July to remove it, my anxiety has gone through the roof, to the point I feel am living on a knife edge with a knotted stomach all the time.

Has anyone else shared a similar experience, would it help to up the patch for a while?

Thanks x

What does the oncologist suggest?  I would send an e-mail to Dr Currie who began the Forum, asking the question. There is a charge.

Julia

I'm so sorry that you've had so much to cope with this year. I don't have any info but wanted to wish you well!

Julia

So sorry you are having such a hard time, and then HRT/menopausal issues on top.  I have no advice I’m afraid but hopefully someone will be along soon to offer you some.   I am not surprised your anxiety has gone through the roof.  Try to relax and look after yourself as much as you can, easier said than done I know.  x

Sending virtual hugs your way Julia 🌸🌸🌸

This is a tough time and you need to take a day at a time.

50mg is a low dose of hrt.
Your oncologist would be best placed to advise i would imagine. Maybe an increase would help settle the anxiety a little? X
