Vagifem tablet - sting when plunger plunged
« on: October 07, 2021, 09:38:46 PM »

Hi.
I have avidly been reading some of the threads on dryness and VA - how valuable.
I am 3 months post-hysterectomy/ovary removal. I’m on systemic HRT and my body is starting to adjust. My consultant, who did the operation, has put me on what seems to be the standard 2 weeks of Vagifem, then twice a week with a review in 2 months. This is because I am getting quite sore and I initially assumed it was slow healing from the operation.

Question: does it always sting when the applicator plunger sends the tablet rocketing off? Or should this calm down when the oestrogen has a chance to build up? I have only done 2 applications so far.

Thanks in advance

Once the tissues plump up a bit, you'll probably find that it doesn't sting. Depending on your situation, it may take a while for that to happen.

I've nipped myself a couple of times with the stick on attachment,  not nice, I know.  :o

You could coat the applicator in a good vaginal moisturiser if you have any, eg Sylk or one of the Yes products. That aside, as CherrySG says, it should ease in time.

Don't push it too far up initially.  Ease it as far as is comfy.  Coating first is a good idea .  There are a lot of small nerves as well as thin skin there which will improve once the 'vagifem' begins to take effect.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi. I have been using Sylk or Yes WB (still trying them both out) with the applicator and it seems a bit better. It isn't so sharp when the pill 'pings'. I can walk for longer with no internal chafing feeling so the vagifem must be working already which also helps with the pill application.

The suggestion from CLFD not to go too far has helped - even if it is just psychological to know that could be an option.

Thanks again.

Me again.

Does anyone know if there any reason I can’t remove the tablet and place it up there myself without the applicator? I can’t find anything on the internet apart from medical type things that all say use the applicator. I would have thought as long as I wash my hands thoroughly before and after that would be okay? The flipping plungers seem to be stronger than me!

There's no reason why you shouldn't use a finger instead of the applicator. I know of people on the VA Facebook group who do this with the generic brands of Vagifem.

I was given the generic brand of vagifem for one prescription, as they had difficulty in getting hold of vagifem.  I used my finger with no problems.
