HRT and leg cramps
« on: September 21, 2021, 01:09:09 PM »

Hi Everyone,

I've been on HRT for 6 weeks (I'm 53 in haven't had a period for 12 months).   2 pumps of oestrogen and 100g of urtrogestan nightly.   Initially I felt good, flushes went and slightly happier and less anxious.   More recently the anxiety has returned and I'm also very groggy during the day.   The thing I have also been having are cramps in my calves and hamstrings.   I've never had these before.  The past few days my left lower leg feels achy and crampy but there is no swelling or redness.   I did email my meno specialist who said to keep an eye on it and if it persists to contact my GP to rule out a DVT.   Just wondered if anybody else had experienced something similar and if you did whether it went away.   She also told me to watch out for chest pain/breathlessness which would mean a trip to A&E but to be honest I have ongoing twinges in my chest area due to anxiety so trying not to overthink that too much as I can almost bring it on!

My meno specialist said to keep on the HRT.

Not on HRT, but I had painful hamstrings for a while. No reason for it, it just happened as my symptoms got worse. Since a brief disastrous stint on HRT it hasn’t been back.

I hope it’s just hormonal and settles down x

I'm not on HRT either, but I have been trying numerous combined pills for my peri symptoms. My latest pill gave me exactly that - calf cramps. They were worse the first few weeks butbthen settled down.

I never get cramps either - exveot I remember having them when pregnant. So defo the hormones.

I agree, it is a worrying side affect. The pill that was causing it for me is the one most closely linked with clots - so it was worrying. For other reasons, I've had to stop it.

If it continues to bother you, maybe change to a different type. X

I have lower leg cramps weird feeling that comes and goes and I am certain mine is due to fluctuations, I’ve been having them on and off for a few years.

It may be that your body responded well the the 2 pumps initially and now you need a bit more.  Can you increase by another pump? Maybe check with the doctor first unless they have already said you can increase.

Thanks for your replies. I'll see how I go and perhaps chat to my meno lady again about changing the dose.
