Anxiety and HRT
« on: September 20, 2021, 02:15:26 PM »

I’ve been on HRT for 4 months and started because of awful anxiety. I’m feeling nearly as bad as before I started it and think it doesn’t suit me. I feel so low and hopeless and frankly don’t want to continue like this. Has anyone else stopped and had their anxiety improve? So looking for some light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Jacdan

Sorry you feel like this , have you thought of trying a different method ??

I was on HRT ( patches ) for 3.5 months and I thought was making things worse as I hadn’t really suffered aniexty apart from 1 time and I didn’t know if was my hormones or Covid Jabs that caused it.

Anyway after 3.5 months I took patch off and not going to lie , my aniexty got worse but I think that’s the withdrawal from the HRT … and I’ve been told can take 3-6 months to level off

I’m almost 8 weeks off it now and although certain things feel better , the aniexty is in the background but not so intense but all the same I know it’s there .. but I also know that it can take time for it all to level off
I won’t go back on HRT now as want to give my body a break from adding anything to it…but in the future if things got really bad I would most definitely try again , although I would be thinking what if ..
some people find the right regime first time ( lucky sods ) some dont and it takes a few Attempts

Do you get any relief from your HRT .. ?
Are you in peri or post menopause
I’m still peri .. long way to go me lol
But generally I do feel better off the patch but it’s the first weeks coming off it was by far the worst for me
Xx

Hi Jacdan, sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I can assure you, though, that you're not alone. If you browse around in the forum you'll see many of us struggle or have struggled with anxiety.

HRT often helps, but it may take time to find the right dose, and it's not at all unusual having to try different forms (e.g gel, patch, oral) before reaching balance. Some ladies are also taking anti anxiety medication either on top, or as an alternative to HRT.

Do you have a chance to speak with your GP, or to be referred to menopause clinic? 4 months without any improvement would call for a review of the regime.

Let us know how you get on! take care xx
