Can you help please ?
« on: August 29, 2021, 03:00:52 PM »

Hi ladies.  I wonder if anyone has found that HRT or hormones generally have caused you discomfort in your anal area. Long story short.....I had started losing bright red blood when I went to the toilet. Not just when wiping but it was actually in the toilet.  I contacted my GP and I’ve done a stool test which was clear. To try to help I’ve taken Dulcoease so that I don’t strain and also been taking Sitz baths in Epsom salts and using otc Hemorrhoid ointment.  However, today I’m so sore and uncomfortable but also aching underneath so wondering if the oestrogen I’m taking is making the veins swell.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Rosie63

What HRT are you taking at the moment?

Before I took HRT, I noticed I was getting sore around the perineum and this was making sitting down uncomfortable. Vaginal HRT and then systemic estrogen has reduced those symptoms a lot.

It sounds like you need a GP to examine you properly.

Epsom salts can sting on any sore or broken skin - perhaps something like dried calendula or chamomile brewed as a decoction in hot water and then added to the sitz bath would be better?

Thanks Jasmine20. I’m a bit all over the place with my HRT because I haven’t found anything that manages symptoms without horrible side effects.  Consequently, I keep stopping and starting. Currently I’m trying to stick with FemSeven conti and I also use vaginal HRT.  I’m mid 60 and after successfully taking HRT from the age of 50 until it was discontinued nearly 4 years, I just haven’t found anything else that works for me, unfortunately.  Now, with all this, I feel really low 😞

I think you’re right that I need to GP to examine me and in the meantime, I will try what you suggest for the sitz bath.

Thanks again.

How uncomfortable for you. I agree you need to see a GP. Did you bleed when the stool test was taken?

A bit I think Taz. I am feeling discomfort all the time and whereas I’ve been able to manage my Hemorrhoids with creams and ointments before, they don’t seem to be helping. You can imagine what’s going through my mind !!

Thanks for your support.
