Hi Ladies ,

I found this an interesting read, see link attached  explaining why women suffer from more pain.

Hello Pepperminty.

Thank you for posting a very interesting article.

I am not a migraine sufferer but I did experience daily headaches for the first time in early post menopause.
I have also escaped a lot of the muscle pain that other ladies report.

If I have understood the article correctly the stimulation of inflammation receptors are a possible cause of increased pain sensation. I wonder if my anti inflammatory diet is somehow helping me to avoid the above symptoms? If so perhaps simple lifestyle changes would help other ladies.

I could be completely wrong if course and I certainly have other meno symptoms that are troubling me  but I thought my ramblings were worth a mention.

Wishing you well.

Hi Kathleen,

thanks for the reply. Did you go on an anti inflammatory diet due to pain? Or was it something you have always done? Did you find you felt better on it?  I have also just read that progesterone causes joint pain in some - 20% of women apparently!

Thank you for that Pepperminty. As a chronic pain and migraine sufferer I found that interesting. I’m 71 and on a 50mcg Estradot patch. My migraines have become more frequent but less painful over time. I shall certainly look into an anti-inflammatory diet.

Hi hotmama No probs ,   every little piece of the puzzle can help.

Chronic pain is something I know well. I have found by writing a detailed diary that my pain can correlate to times in the month almost by the day with my progesterone. Not every pain I have but the sacrum area and burning muscles.

Hello Pepperminty.

I changed my diet in 2010 when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis which is an inflammatory bowel disease. At the same time I had what turned out to be my last period. I did some reading and stopped eating meat and drinking milk as they both contribute to gut problems. I carried on eating eggs and cheese but after another mild flare in 2013 I gave up all animal products and began eating a whole foods plant based diet which I have stuck to ever since.  I also take a very low dose anti inflammatory drug especially formulated for UC patients however I believe that my anti inflammatory diet has helped me remain symptom free for eight years.

Although I had some headaches in 2012 they resolved after six months and I have never had joint or muscle pains. Whether my diet helped is hard to say but I believe an anti inflammatory diet is also recommended for arthritis sufferers.

I found a website called NutritionFacts.Org which was established by Dr Michael Greger and I learned a lot about the impact of diet on our health.

Although my U C is under control I am still struggling with menopausal issues and trying to find the right HRT so I am in no position to give advice there lol!

Take care.

K.

Another very interesting article Pepperminty, thank you for posting it  :).   Like Hotmama, I have both migraine & chronic pain, so always good to learn more, though both are so complex :o  Sorry to know you also have chronic pain Pepperminty.  All adds up at menopause doesn't it?

Thanks for posting what you do Kathleen. I am sure a good diet does help.

And I agree Wrensong, it does add up and goes up a gear in menopause. I am pretty sure that a percentage of my pain is caused by my HRT as it is cyclical and I know that i must be near if not past menopause.

Sorry to hear you have the same Chronic pain issues - I whole heartedly sympathise.

 Hi Pippa ,

Fibromyalgia is a horrible condition.   I know people who have had great success with an NHS pain management support service, if you have one in your area , or you can be referred out of area if they don't have one.  GP's often don't know about them.
