Oestrogel/Utrogestan advice
«

I have decided to give utrogestan and oestrogel one last try.
When I had my private appointment back in April I was advised to use oestrogel gel 2 pumps daily, building up to 4 pumps if needed….how do you know if you need 3 or maybe 4 pumps..could it be that I’ve not been using enough in the past, hence me feeling irritable/emotional as I did pre Oophorectomy?
Would be really grateful for any advice re this please? X

hello! I started on 2 pumps just before Christmas, and after 3 months went up to 3, and I'm now on 4 pumps per day. I use 2 in the morning and 1 1/2 or 2 in the evening and find it to be very good.
I upped my dose as the night sweats were creeping back, which I find to be an indicator for me generally.

Hi Lisa
I’m on 3 pumps, but I sometimes take 4. Basically I still have about a week in my cycle where I get symptoms and that’s when I add in more estrogen. So if you’re feeling good on 2 there would be no need to go up to 3. They do advise the lowest effective dose. If however you find that after a while you are getting breakthrough symptoms then you could up your dose.
My specialist tells me “you can’t really overdo it as the doses are quite low”

The right dose for you is the lowest dose that controls your symptoms. The symptoms of too much oestrogen can be just as bad as too little. 2 pumps is a common starting dose, that's what I started on too. If you still have symptoms after 3 mo this then add a third pump. It's important to increase slowly and give it time to work. Although hot flushes usually go within a couple of weeks my anxiety and insomnia took 3 months.
