****edit- I know it is a long post, but can anyone offer advice, also does anyone take utrogestan continually and get on okay with it please? *****
Hi, I am looking for some advice please…
I am seven years post Op BSO, still have uterus.
In that time I have tried various types of HRT and haven’t had much success at all as I really struggle with progesterone, it makes me feel like I did when I had PMDD prior to surgery.
After years of unsuccessful GP visits, I ended up paying privately and was advised to try utrogestan 200mg vaginally days 15-28 along with Estrogel (2 pumps).
I managed just a few months on that regime and in that time experienced the usual horrible side effects of the progesterone (tearful, irritable, angry) plus heavy bleeding so unfortunately had to stop.
Some of the symptoms I had been experiencing, such as brain fog, hot flashes etc did ease with the HRT but the other side effects sadly outweighed these.
I went to see the gynaecologist a few days ago, as I had been referred to see if I could have a hysterectomy. She did say this was an option, however, she was concerned that a hysterectomy may be unnecessary surgery if I am simply not suited to HRT (which I understand)
She has asked me to think about the Mirena coil, I did explain that I had tried it once before and it didn’t agree with me so I had it removed when I was having my oopherectomy. She said it would be different now as I don’t have my own progesterone therefore shouldn’t feel the effects of it the same….I am not convinced to be honest.
Have any of you had a Mirena coil fitted post BSO and if so, how have you found it please? This really is my last option before further surgery so would really appreciate any advice please!
