Ovestin
« on: August 09, 2021, 02:31:06 PM »

Hello everyone,

Hope I can get some advice/support with an issue I'm having.  I have been post menopause for about 3 years now.  Not on any HRT as I wasn't finding Evorel patches very pleasant so I gave up on them.  Things have been OK however, sex has become very painful.  Went to GP who examined me and said she thought she saw some signs of thrush so prescribed me a pessary and cream.  No swabs were done as they are too expensive apparently. As a seasoned 'experiencer' of thrush I was quite surprised by this, but thought OK, fair enough.  She prescribed Ovestin which I'm to use every night for two weeks 9I think) and then twice weekly.  I used it Wed, Thurs & Friday and have felt dire all weekend. Brain fog, crashing tiredness and generally  :sick02: :sick02:  Could this be the effect of the Ovestin?  It does remind me of how I felt last year when I had the Evorel patches and I gave up because I felt absolutely shocking.    (I've tested for C19 and it was negative).

Any suggestions or thoughts are very welcome.

xx

Hi there, when I first started taking vagifem, I had back ache, nausea and a few other things but was told that with such a small topical dose, this shouldn't be down to the vagifem, could it be coincidence? I stopped taking it for a while and felt a bit better but obviously the VA came back,so I started taking it again and was fine second time around,so it really is a guessing game whether it's down to the ovestin or not,I still find sex a bit painful but not nearly as bad, could you ask for vagifem? May suit you better?

Ovestin (or 'vagifem') should be used every night for at least 2 weeks, then 4/5th and 6/7th night.  Initially it can be inserted gently into the vagina as far as is comfy: push a little further every few nights if there is soreness.  Once the vaginal tissues are plumped up, it will be less sore.  We have threads on 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy' - do read.

If your bladder irritates then taking pain relief may ease the need to pee by relaxing the spincter.   Some ladies require 'yes' or 'sylc' moisturisers along with VA treatment.  Don't use too many products at the same time initially or you won't know what is working/not.

There is such a small amount of active ingredient that I would think that your symptoms are general peri-menopause.  MayB keep a mood/food/symptom diary ?

AuntyBiz, how about using the Ovestin every other night for a bit, or using half a dose nightly. If the tissues are very thin, there might be a very little systemic absorption at first. Once the tissues have plumped up a bit, you should be fine.
